WOYWW 621 chains

Hi all, back again for another week’s crafty blog hopping via The Stamping Ground. 

I had to do some repairs this week, so out came my jewellery making tools. 

I had bought B the #bakeforSyria cookbook from Unicef and saw this pair of fringed earrings on their site. It’s for charity, that’s my excuse! I wanted to change the ear wires over to the continental fittings I prefer, that need no butterflies. 

I also had some left over links so made myself a chain necklace. 

I like the construction of these earrings. The fringe is sewn together then glued onto the metal strip. 

In my novel-in-progress(15k words now!) I refer a lot to Byzantine chain bracelets. Here is the one I always wear. It takes 200 jump rings I weave together. This is the gold one I made for my 60th birthday. 

I also crocheted some more mask adapters and took them with me to hand out when I went for my 2nd covid jab. 

I’ve sewn up my cat stitch shawl and should have something to show next week. 

Thea sends a “MRRP” to your cats. The cat milk routine in the morning is now fixed and she wakes us up if we’re late with it.

My novel writing was going well but my next creative writing class assignment is to write a romantic scene. I’m so NOT Mills & Boon oriented that I’m finding it a struggle. I do have one of those Kurdish men with half-inch long eyelashes though, who’s just appeared in the Paris section of my novel, so there’s hope yet!

We went to the wonderful Macknades Italian food hall in Faversham this week, for the first time in about 18 months. I adore Pear Mostarda, which is a sort of Venetian chutney, and have missed it. They sell wonderful food all round. The only pity is that they don’t sell spare fridges as ours is now rammed. 

We took our cherry and almond cakes to eat on the beach afterwards. A cold wind but fresh.

WOYWW 620 Pockets

Hi all, back again for our weekly peek at our craft desks courtesy of Julia at The Stamping Ground. 

This week I’ve been experimenting with pockets for my shawl. The cat stitch is quite open. Possibly not good for a pocket! 

This russet one was too open. 

I started crocheting a lining but that was boring. 

I’ve now tried an adaptation of the stitch to make a more solid shape. Seems better but I’m still thinking. Any suggestions gratefully accepted, thanks! 

I’ve also done a bit of sashiko/biro mending on B’s garden jeans. 

Otherwise, I’m totally fixated by my novel writing and my new writing software Scrivener, which is like an electronic cork board you can attach scenes to, move, split and merge as you wish. It shows I’ve written a whole 25% of my novel! I wish I’d had it years ago. It would have been great for technical reports as well. A free trial download can be found here.

I’ve had my hair cut at last, yay! And I will be having my 2nd jab on Friday. I wish I could believe it’s over but the figures are creeping up again. 

Thea is still occupying her place at the bottom of the bed and now demands cat milk in a bowl there every morning. Spoilt, moi?? 😻 

She has been so down since Dino died, at other times fearful and skittish so we don’t mind spoiling her. 

 She sends her “MRRP” greeting to all your cats. Someone asked about MRRP. It’s just my spelling of the little chirrup greeting she makes. Sometimes it’s an enthusiastic “Hey!”, at others it’s “what are you bothering me for?”

And finally...

A friend in my writing group sent me this after I mentioned finding a note I’d scribbled about the method of a character’s death. 

 Btw I like Julia’s idea of commemorating our 12th year. I might just send a postcard though, if that’s ok. I’m not very adept at paper crafts aan- ATCs would be too much at present. I haven’t even finished my thread book.😏

WOYWW 619 The pen’s the thing

Hi all, back again for our weekly blog hop, courtesy of Julia at the Stamping Ground. Here’s my desk. 

I haven’t really done much crafting this week, apart from carrying on with my cat stitch pocket shawl. 

I’m deep into my writing projects. My novel is progressing, my creative writing class has started up again and I m entering a short story competition. Anyone can enter this.

The H G Wells short story competition

On the left of my desk is my writing notebook and my left-handed Lamy fountain pen. I wrote  on my pc all my working life but creativity is better for me in ink. I also have a little notebook by my bed, so sometimes text gets transferred from the bedside notebook to my main writing notebook before it gets onto my laptop. It seems crazy but it helps me edit. A friend, Anna, tipped me off about writing when I first wake up. Sometimes I have my best ideas then. 

Thea insists on having milk in a bowl on the bed every morning, and stays up there for most of the day, as it’s still quite cold. 

Here’s a brief visit downstairs for treats.

WOYWW 618 Brrr

A quick post this week. I’m now on the second front of my cat pattern shawl. 

Hobbii are having a sale. As well as extras of my existing colours, I thought I’d try this blue. It doesn’t work for me with this shawl but it’s nice wool so I’ll use it for something else. 

This Saturday is 60 years since my first day at school.  I’d be interested to see what you think of my experience, on that day. It still makes my blood boil now, 60 years later.

 We managed to spruce up the window boxes before we went back to winter. As I write this on Tuesday afternoon, it is snowing again - in Kent!

Our plum tree is looking good at the moment. 

Thea is staying firmly inside again.
