WOYWW 673 Cat blanket squares and covid

Hi, just a quick post as we’ve both got covid. 

Anyway, to crafting. I was bored with the cat blanket I was making so I’ve added some of Polly Plum’s Stardust Melody squares, details here: Stardust melody using up some stash. The colours are more muted than normal for me - fits in with my energy levels at the mo’.

For me covid is currently like a medium-grade chest infection with brain fog. B had a bad sore throat at first but is recovering better. I’m throwing all my meds at this - steroids, nebulised meds etc to stay out of hospital. None of the respiratory conditions are on the list for anti-virals, apparently 😠😠. 

My GP is being very supportive. She put me forward for an anti-viral trial but testing positive on a Friday meant I missed their 5-day window. Anyway 🤞🏻🤞🏻

The cats are a bit bemused - I have to shut them out of the room to use my nebuliser and they’re not used to such poor service 😾😾

WOYWW 672 cat blanket and Florentines

Hi all, I hope you all had a good Easter?  This week, I’ve not been crafting much. I’m making another cat blanket, just a simple C2C pattern. 

I wanted to make some special chocolates for Easter, so I thought I’d try Florentines. I filled the bottom of each square with pistachios, walnuts, almonds, apricots, ginger, mixed peel, and then covered them in chocolate. 

They didn’t look really like Florentines but they taste ok!

After we dropped off the boobs last week, we thought we’d have a look at a restaurant that’s recently been done up. It’s called the Pig at Bridge. It’s literally downstream from us as the Nailbourne, below, begins near Lyminge. 

It was famous in the 1960s for rock gigs. Led Zeppelin once even played there. Sadly, it was before my time. 

The restaurant was very busy, but they found us a quiet corner with an open door to this pretty courtyard. 

Their menu sources most food from less than 25 miles away and the food was delicious.

WOYWW 671 S big bag of boobs

Hi all,

It’s still boob central here. Kent & Canterbury hospital has come back and said that single boobs are fine, so I’ll deliver a big bag of them tomorrow. They’re for midwife training as well as for helping new Mums. 

My better half has started volunteering at the nearby Elham valley railway museum, and spends weekend afternoons waving green flags for the little train rides and mending the model of the Channel Tunnel. I dropped him off on Sunday and then went up the hill to look at a train set ‘wot I made’. Any ideas?

I had a walk along the Leas at Folkestone as well. 

The harbour arm cafés have opened but that area was rammed, with people queuing to park. It will be nice to visit after Easter when it’s calmed down a bit. Folkestone is reinventing itself as a foodie destination so it’s getting very interesting. 

In the meantime, I’m improving my bara brith. 

I’m now using a pizza stone under my loaf tins to avoid soggy bottoms, which means they cook through better without burning the top. 

Bella and Gracie send a purr to all your cats.

WOYWW 670 Boob central and Turkish research

Hi again! I'm back for a weekly peek at what each of us has been up to, courtesy of Miss Julia at the Stamping Ground.

Here it's been boob central, as I make more for our local maternity unit. They're for training on breastfeeding, and they like to have one of each pair with a sticking-out nipple, and the other with a flat nipple. No idea why. I don’t yet know if they can take single ones as my contact is on leave. 

I've also been doing some very satisfying research on Istanbul, for my new novel, where Ellyn and Rafiq go searching for trafficked silver in Istanbul, as part of Rafiq's research into Iraqi war crimes.

I can't go there yet, but it's a great excuse for travel research. I've been reading Elif Shafak as well, a beautiful Turkish novelist. 

My first novel, A Sense for Silver, has now gone for editing. It's scary, as I don't know how many changes will be recommended. I'll then have to update it and start hustling for an agent and a publisher. Not looking forward to that!

On Sunday, we went looking for a tall ship, that the internetty webby thing said would dock in Folkestone at 13:00. Well, I think it got blown in faster. We could see it on the horizon but it was going away, not coming closer. 

Here’s where it had gone!

We heard a good jazz busker though, and at least this seagull didn't crap on the roof of our car!

I’ve finally found a mould of the right size for my chocolates, from Lakeland.  I made walnut, coffee and prune chocolates this time, with a few almond ones as well.
