WOYWW 708 Happy New Year

I hope you and yours have had a lovely Christmas. I’ve not been crafting this week but have just added my blog to our last desk hop of the year to wish you all a happy and healthy new year.
Bella and Gracie have been much enjoying their catnip fish and send you new year’s purrs.

Among my presents was an organiser for my crochet hooks. We can’t put it up till the Xmas tree comes down but hopefully I can start using it after twelfth night. This is the seller’s photo on EBay.

I took issue with one seller who said ‘a man could put it up in 10 minutes’ and we bought from another seller without such sexist sales talk, reporting the first one for discrimination since his only replies to my polite suggestion that he might be putting off some buyers were rude.
Anyway, it should be better than the overflowing tin mug I currently keep my hooks in.
And finally….

Take care and happy WOYWW

WOYWW 707 Happy Christmas!

Hello my blog friends and happy Christmas to you all!

Something I really enjoy about Christmas is rediscovering decorations from friends and family. The Christmas pudding above was made for me by Jan a few years ago and it’s one of my favourites.
Here’s my crafting for this week - I’m crocheting rib for B’s birthday slipover. Bella’s helping๐Ÿ˜ป

The fairy on the top of my tree is as old as I am.
The angel below her is much younger. For my Mum’s 85th birthday we had a weekend in London with her. When we took her to St Paul’s, she told me how she’d been up in the Whispering Gallery with my father 65 years before. I persuaded an official to let us use the evacuation lift so we could go up there. We went to the Tower of London as well and this is my favourite photo of her

I think of her a lot at Christmas.

Anyway, Bella and Gracie send purrs to you all. They’re VERY interested in their Christmas pressies (big catnip fish).
And finally…
B mentioned a Welsh cartoon that said Lionel Messi gets bara brith sent to him every week, but as always on Facebook, it disappears as soon as you look for it…

Happy WOYWW and happy Christmas to you all

WOYWW 706 Keeping warm with vines

Hi all, I hope you’re keeping warm in this chilly weather! I’ve resorted to merino base layers.

The eagle-eyed among you, mentioning no names, Jan, spotted that last week Gracie was on my lap next to a new piece of crochet. It was the start of this. Brian has always secretly liked the embroidered suit Gram Parsons wore do I’m making him a vineyard slipover for his birthday in January. It will later have leaves sewn on like my recent scarf. I ordered the wool online and it’s a bit lighter in weight than I thought. Brian likes it but I may do a double layer of it. I’ll see. I do like the way the grapes stick up with the puff stitches!

The leaves are fun to crochet when I’m bored with to and fro crochet or when I’m in the car.

There’s been much vying for my lap this week- I suppose I’m a useful heat source๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ป
I’ve taken more photos of our water meter this week than anything else.
We have to take the second meter reading for our water on Thursday, and then we’ll see how Affinity Water makes amends. I’m still disgusted by how they refuse to invest in water meters with leak alarms (unlike Thames) while exhorting us all to save water.

And finally…

I’m off to blog hop at Julia’s Stamping Ground

Take care and enjoy your crafting!

WOYWW 705

Sorry to have been absent, we've had a lot to do with moles these past two weeks. Not this sort:

But having a new water pipe fitted, which involved moling machines under our drive, getting up at dawn to get done before the water goes off etc.The physical works are now done, but I've still to battle the water company about our bill, once we take the 2nd reading next week. I’ve had lots of headaches and haven’t felt like blogging and commenting.

In the meantime I've made a vineyard scarf for our goddaughter's partner and a pair of gloves to go with her vineyard shawl for herself (with a bracelet tucked into the glove).
See we
I hope they’re not too rough for the Parisian pair!
Bella and Gracie are much appreciating the warmth now we are using the log burner again.

We're not sending Christmas cards this year and are making a donation to the cat shelter they came from instead. I wrote a review of my favourite Italian food hall, Macknades, for the Guardian, and they’ve said I should go in and collect a free panettone as a reward! I’ll be going this morning so I’ll comment later. I’m well chuffed!

And finally
I’m not sure if I ve posted this one before but I love it!๐Ÿ˜ป

Happy WOYWW and happy crafting

WOYWW 702 More vineyards

Hi all,
Here are the gloves I was working on last week

I’m now working on a scarf for her partner. I’m adding a few grapes and leaves but fewer than in the shawl I showed you last week, to make it a bit more ‘masculine’.
Principally, this week, we’ve been dealing with the water company, who reported a 1000L leak per day from our water supply. They finally dug on Monday and decided the leak was ‘our side of the boundary’ and therefore our responsibility. I nearly came to blows with one of them who suggested I get my husband to come and take a photo - he thought I was being rude by saying that was sexist.  He redeemed himself when he ran his cat scanner up the side of the house for us, to locate the pipe we have to replace. It’s going to cost about £2000 and our house insurance has said it’s not covered.
It’s incredible to think you can have a large leak and it’s not visible. It’s just pouring into the ground, and Affinity Water didn’t  notice till they came to read the meter. If you see a cheap insurance for your mains water, it’s worth considering!
Bella and Gracie send purrs to you all. No new photos this week.
And finally…

I’m off to join in the blog hop at The Stamping Ground Take care and happy WOYWW!

WOYWW 701 Vineyard gloves

Hi all, I hope to visit more WOYWW desks this week as I’m feeling better after a few days of nasty headaches.
I’ve diverted from the Tizzy- coloured slipover to fingerless gloves this week. I thought I’d make some for my goddaughter to go with the scarf I made a couple of years ago.
Here are the gloves in progress:

Here’s the scarf.

We had another Stitch and Bitch meeting last night. I dropped some larger sized needles and thicker wool off for one of the beginners last week, and was rewarded with a photo of well knitted rows. ๐Ÿ˜€
The weather has been horribly rainy so we’ve mainly stayed home and cuddled up with the cats. Of course, Bella and Gracie hate that but they put up with it for us.๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ˜ผ. They send purrs to you all.

And finally…

Take care and happy WOYWW!

WOYWW 700!

Wow, 700 weekly blog hops of The Stamping Ground isn’t that just brilliant! Well done Julia and Jan! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿธ๐Ÿธ
I’ve started a wavy sleeveless jumper for Brian. It’s crocheted in the round and uses the same yarn as my Tizzy ( I won’t want him to wear it at the same time ๐Ÿ˜€).

I braved our local pub last night for the first of a series of Stitch and Bitch sessions, raising money for Alzheimer’s UK. I was wearing my Tizzy cardigan. One of the knitters saw me crocheting the slipover and thought I was adding to my Tizzy cardigan while wearing it!
We had 3 beginners and 3 experienced knitters / crocheters. The 3 beginners were from the family who run the pub and they were keen to learn knitting.
I promised to look out some of my Mum’s old knitting needles as I don’t use them now. (I got used to circular ones when knitting while commuting). She must have done lots of hard knitting- look how bent these needles are!
Gracie and Bella send purrs to your all

And finally…

Take care and happy 700th WOYWW!
