WOYWW 834 Grapes and Chickens

Hi all, Here again for our weekly bloghop care of Sarah’s Craft Shed. I’ve been getting the days all wrong this week. I woke up on Saturday thinking I hadn’t written my story for “today’s” (Monday’s) creative writing class. Today I thought was Wednesday and I’ve lost a week and had to check when we went to the exhibition! Doolally tap!
Here’s my watercolour desk. Annie’s ATC hadn’t come out of its black hole so I painted another and made it into a picture. I hope she gets it today!

Here are the lovely ATCs I received for our anniversary
Left and top are from Jo (Twiglet) and the bottom two were sent by Mary-Anne. They’re all beautiful, many thanks. I adore the peacock especially and the blessing on Mary Anne’s.

I confess I was struggling with the baby book - such tiny stitches! I can go back to it later perhaps when travelling.
I then saw on Facebook that people are making chickens in crochet or knitting. They’re called Emotional Support Chickens and they look rather cuddly. The patterns are for sale on Etsy or as a Crochet pattern on Ravelry
The example below is from the pattern: (not my work!)

I’m fancying one that’s a cockerel rather than a hen so I’m hoping to emulate this magnificent one by Sue Hill.
Bella was sleeping on the supervision job, I’m afraid, and I sewed my tail feathers on the wrong side.  She woke up to send you all purrs. 😻
I love the colours of Sirdar Jewelspun but it does not give in easily to frogging (undoing) so I started again, with the colours I really wanted to use. The left over bits can be part of the stuffing.

Bella’s happier now I’ve sewn it right!

I love the way its coming together, The green flaps will be the chest but it doesn’t look far from an odd corset at the moment!
There are videos to show how to crochet or knit a chicken. I’ve saved them here: Emotional Support Chicken video links with a reminder for me of how to French knit the tail feathers, as per Sue’s rooster.

It was terrible to view the car crashing into celebrating Liverpool crowds. I’m glad the police shared the ethnicity of the driver to avoid the shameful riots based on misinformation that we had last year. I really hope the injured are ok.

Wasn’t it sad to see Rafa Nadal’s retirement at Roland Garros? I had to watch it on Facebook as it wasn’t deemed newsworthy in the UK 🤬. He was my favourite and it’s right that he was celebrated at the French Open. No one else has come near to winning it 14 times!

I had an MRI of my knees last week and have a consultation this Friday so I can see what’s going on. Maybe the consultant can tell if it will get better on its own. Otherwise, if an op can be done with a spinal block that’s a possibility, (I had one a few years ago on my ankle) but if it’s a general anaesthetic or live with it, it will be the latter as anaesthetists avoid my damaged lungs like the plague.

And finally…
I do love Mack the Knife!

Happy WOYWW

  1. I love the cockerel! I look forward to seeing your finished version. I am a Liverpool fan and was watching some of the parade on the club's You Tube channel and then put the news on...Such a tragic end to a fabulous day. Happy WOYWW and good luck for the knee consult on Friday. Helen #2

  2. I chuckled at the funnies - Mack the Knife one especially.🤣 I had forgotten about the peacock felted picture until I found the card. Max thinks she will devise a workshop using the idea. What comes round, goes round 😃 I hope the scan proves useful for you and they can do something to ease your pain. x x Jo 🌈

  3. Well done on being Numero UNO on the list today! I do like the colours of the Sirdar, they’re very you and can see why you love them so much. Who is the emotional support chicken for? Are they like Trauma Teddies to give out to kids for example? The undone chicken doen look like a corset in your pic but you can see how it’ll sew together, clever!

  4. Thanks for the TP quote.
Love Jo's ATC's, especially the peacock one, isn't she clever with a needle or two.
Hope that they can do the spinal block, I can't even have my hip done under one of them because of the recovery time and what can happen. I'm coming to terms with it and not as weepy now and the promise of a scooter is helping a little.
The hen is a great idea and I can imagine very cuddly. I was thinking you could make one and put buttons for eyes (well sewn on) and maybe a patch of something furry and lots of different "feely" things - go mad with the tail feathers. I am getting at making one of those hens/cockerels for sensory support for maybe a child who is blind or even just for a child to play with and learn different things like lacing up shoes, putting buttons through the holes to fasten etc. Sorry, I am getting carried away, just a thought for you.
Love the cockerel and I am sufre yours will be gorgeous.

  5. Love the idea of a cuddly chicken or cockerel. I didn’t know the person you named, Tennis star, I guess or it could be golf? The mixed media and the sketch book were from the same company (Arteza). The mixed media paper is 180 gm (110 lb) and the sketch book 100 gm (68 lb). I think the sketchbook is a better quality paper, a bit confusing really. Happy WOYWW. Angela #9

  7. Look forward to seeing your interpretation of the cockerel, they look like fun to make too. Good luck with the results of the MRI scan and thanks for your kind words, the funeral went well. Happy woyww, Angela x8x

  8. Hello Lynn, coincidence being what it is, I was enjoying a black grape when I clicked on your site! Love your drawing as much as I love the grapes. The chicken and cockerel are fabulous. I wonder if Silver would play with one as much as she does the little flapping cat toy she's currently trying to kill! I don't watch or listen to the news much these days - it's all too upsetting - so I missed the news about Rafa Nadal. I'd say Roger Federer is my all time favourite with Rafa a close second, so I'm sad now that they are both retired. I enjoyed this week's funnies. Have a great week. Elizabeth x #14

  9. Oh love the redone ATC grape vine and the Emotional support Chicken/rooster is fabulous. Your yarn is amazing. It French Knitting the one through a cotton real type of thing with only a few stitches - takes me back a bit that. For me this week having the sewing machine out on a separate "permanent" table was brilliant for Making Zen. I was pretty busy, hence my late reply. Hugs BJ#5

  10. The week got away from me but Happy (so late) WOYWW! Your drawings are so lovely, You have been very dedicate and seem to get better and better with each new one. The funnies always make me laugh, and I do love the Emotional Support Chicken - knitters named her Elizabeth Zimmer-hen :D I never knew there was a crochet version! Look forward to seeing it complete. I could have cranked out those tail "feathers" in a minute with my icord maker - I've been doing octopuses and it makes short work of the eight :D
