WOYWW 868 textures of snow, and heart-shaped pillows.

Hi all, I’m here for our weekly blog sharing care of Sarah’s Craftshed, firstly sending healing hugs to our Neet, who’s still in hospital, I believe.
My art class desk is fairly empty this week as we were drawing our winter landscapes. Claire showed us examples of textures created with gesso, though, which have made me reconsider my subject.
I’m not sure it will be clear in a photo, but Claire showed us how to create texture with gesso. That’s made me think that my friend,Chris’s photo of Prince’s Parade might be interesting to do, with its crunchy snow.

On Saturday, I spent a happy afternoon with Ethelburga quilters. Once a year, they have a day of making heart-shaped cushions for people who’ve had breast surgery, which are donated to our local hospital. They’re heart shaped to be easy to tuck under the arm.
Most are expert sewers, with fancy sewing machines, but I do the stuffing and hand-sewing of the stuffing gap. Is there a technical term for this gap, Jan?
We made 76 cushions, and the organiser, my friend, Liz, took 10 more home with her to finish.

It was a nice afternoon and they appreciated my caramel Florentines, with apricot, mixed peel, pistachios and almonds. I’ll make them again and will remember to take a photo this time! πŸ˜†
Bella is still supervising my crochet. She sends you all purrs.

And finally…
Mine are secured with spectacle cables these days but I know how this one feels!

I’ll be round after art class.
Hugs

  1. Wow, I'm glad I clicked on the texture photo to see it up close. They look amazing. What a great thing to bring to your pieces. And the heart pillows - I did/do all kinds of charity knitting over the years and this is the first I've hear of that one. No clue if there is an official name for that gap LOL! If anyone knows it will be Jan!!
    Happy WOYWW!

  3. What a great team to be part of, the photo says it all! A lovely day spent doing something really helpful, the best sort of crafting xx. And the technical term for your job was Stuffer Supremo I think *grin*
I’ve never used gesso so it’ll be interesting to see how you get on with it, definitely an interesting technique to learn. I do like mixed media art very much but am rubbish at it myself! I really like the colours and pattern of Bri’s new top, a good combo xx

  8. Glad you're having fun with the texture in the gesso. my regular one I use is thin, but I do have some heavy gesso which you can really add texture with. Well done on the heart making session. I love the funnies - esp the Tardis painting one! Happy WOYWW Helen #1

  9. Ooh Lynne, Florentines…absolutely a lovely treat, I bet you didn’t have to bring any home! The heart shaped pillows is a really nice idea, and what a great number you all got through. To think way back when I was at school, our art teacher said that gesso would only become a texture if badly applied…..I think it was carte Blanche to apply it however we wanted to, but none of us were sure!!

And what would a heart pillow be without the stuffing? Just a piece of fabric, so you are very important to the cause! ❤️Lindart #15
