My workspace this week is a jumble of Embroidery and sashiko threads. I’m assembling them to make some more Dorset buttons. I’m waiting for more rings to arrive.

My friend was very pleased with her beekeeper hat. As B has spent so much time kindly modelling hats and gloves for others, I thought he should have a hat
He supports the Llanelli Scarlets rugby team, so I was trying very hard to get the dragon emblem right. I could see I’d need front post crochet for the wings but it was hard to get the angle right, and I kept having to undo and try again.
I showed it to him and he said ‘Oh we just use a saucepan, it’s easier” (the other symbol, for the tinplate works). Well,reader, he nearly got strangled with my yarn.🤬🤬🤬 I was furious but it was funny as well.
Once it was done he saw the finished dragon and was suitably impressed.
I’ve also finished my green and bronze shawl this week. It goes with a green and bronze dress, which I’ll get the chance to wear one day, I hope 😔
Thea has us well under her thumb. Between meals/ sleeps she comes to me for a proper greeting of rubbing heads ( I’ve seen lionesses do the same on TV). She also, rather strangely, likes to lick my right ear. A very peculiar sensation!
She then stands on B’s knee and demands treats, before settling down for a cuddle.
Her usual greeting to us is a sort of MRRP? noise, so she sends a MRRP? to your cats, too.
She seems happy to spend all her time in the house, as do we now. This is her “no you’re not going to do any crochet now because I’m lying on your arm and on your crochet” pose.
Thankfully the lockdown is starting to work and Kent covid figures have started to drop for the first week in a long time. I’m in group 4 and so apparently scheduled to get the vaccine by mid- Feb. Fingers crossed!
And if I’m feeling down I say I’m not locked down, vulnerable, shielded, I am the Artist and Writer in Residence!

Glad you shouldn't have to wait long for the vaccine Lynne. My father has had both his jabs as has my sister (GP). My other sister has has her first too (nurse). Mum is 79 so should be done by mid Feb too. Love the Scarlets hat! Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #3

Morning Lynne. My goodness - have you been busy, or what?! The hat is great - and beautifully modelled, if I may say so. The shawl looks lovely and cosy. I think my favourite photo is the one of those blue and green threads! Makes me think of summer colours, heather on the mountains... Enjoy making the Dorset buttons - I loved making them in the past.

I followed the link to the Dorset button shop and realised that it was the one down the road from Julia! I’ve been there a few times, there’s a courtyard at Weyhill of craft shops, so we used to go there for a browse and coffee, small world huh?! Hopefully some of them will be able to survive this financial crisis for small businesses. The ammonite gloves are fab as is the dragon on the front of the hat and, lovely though B is, I’d have been tempted to strangle him too, lol!!!

ReplyDeleteYour ammonite warmers are looking great - I'm definitely planning on making a pair but it might not be this winter! I love the hat too - clever little dragon, I don't know I'd have had the confidence to tackle one, and yes I can understand how you would want to strangle you OH!

ReplyDeleteYour crochet projects are so lovely, Lynne! I laughed at Thea's antics - you can't possibly move them, can you, when you want to do anything! I am struggling to type this, all sideways with the laptop on the settee beside me because I've got Ruby asleep on my lap! Lily hates it when my hubby reads, and gets her bulk between him and his book so he's practically breathing her in! He gives up any attempt at reading! I love that "mrrrp" noise kitties make but unfortunately ours don't do it. Ruby does head-butt me though. They have scent glands on their foreheads and this is a special greeting usually reserved for their own kind, so it's an honour when they do it to you. The usual upper-lip/side of face rub against you isn't anything special - they do that to the furniture as well, depositing their scent as a signal to other kitties that they've been there. Much better to be treated as an honorary cat rather than a chair, eh? Have you noticed Thea getting more affectionate towards you since Dino died?

ReplyDeleteI never heard of Beaker buttons so I clicked the link... looks interesting! I Sashiko'd several things two years ago and want to pick that craft up again but have sooo much other (lovely) things to do and, after a surgery, catch up that the Sashiko has to wait. Thanks for your visit, Lynne. Ooooh, yes, we know all about Thea's door play variant! Ruby takes an age to make up her mind about anything, but I think a lot of it by an open door is to do with "how can I wind up these humans?" She won't come in, so we shut the door, and then immediately she starts the minstrel routine lol lol!! Kitty psychology - who can fathom it?! Thanks for your support over my hospital issues. There's nothing to be done while Covid is still obstructing everything - that's the only answer you get at the moment, I'm afraid.
