WOYWW 625 ATCS

Hi all, wasn’t it fun last week to celebrate the 12th anniversary of WOYWW?

I received some lovely ATCs, from Wipso and Twiglet, Neet and from Diana Taylor, as well as those I showed last week, and those still on their way. 

Annie sent me a lovely poem as well. 

I thoroughly enjoyed sending out my own, too, designing my silk anniversary ATC and putting charms in my origami boxes. 

Even in Folkestone, the choice of postcards was poor so I printed a couple of views. I included the Channel Tunnel as that’s what brought us down here. I worked in the Railway Control Centre from 1991.  

I can’t show you what I’m working on yet, but here’s part of it. Any ideas? 

I’m still doing my slow stitch, my linen stitch panel.

WOYWW 624 Happy silk anniversary!

I looked up 12th anniversaries and one option is for it to be the silk anniversary. Very nice! I’ve used silk as one of my themes for the ATCs. 

I was thinking this week about what WOYWW means to me, so here’s a little poem I’ll be putting into envelopes along with a postcard and my ATC. Let me know if you’d like to swap ATCs, unless we’ve already exchanged addresses. 

It’s called The WOYWW Wheel. If you have comments or examples you’d like me to add, put them in the comments below. I’m not putting in names, just examples, though love and loss clearly includes Shaz, and you may recognise others.

Apart from ATCs, I’ve not done a lot of crafting this week. 

Crochet 

I have an idea for a lightweight cardigan, based on the 4 ply wool I didn’t use for those tortuous figure of eight gloves. It’s based on big granny squares, alternating with plainer, textured squares. I’ll see if it works. 

Once I started to do a textured square in linen stitch, I’ve really fallen for the woven texture of it, but it’s a dense stitch and slow to crochet. That might change the way I go. 

Adventures in writing

My story about the traveller boy, Jojo, falling for Ellyn’s new assistant at the flea market was well received. I was pleased our tutor said I have an ear for teenage dialogue. Goodness knows from where! (I don’t have children but I do have 6 wonderful godchildren). I’ve now to write about a rival, as evil as possible! Channelling Iago (cue evil laugh!)

Thea has had a very sleepy week. She’s very sensible and doesn’t go out much in the rain.

WOYWW 623 Pockets and feathers

Hi all, back again for our Wednesday blog hop, hosted for 12 YEARS next week by our host Julia at The Stamping Ground. Have a look and why not join in?

I've finished my pocket shawl (just in time for the summer 😏 )

Here are views with the rust pockets, and on the reverse, the blue pockets. 

I've also done a bit of jewellery making. I love these steampunk feathers I found on Amazon. 

Now I have some sleepers I really like. Sometimes my right ear can be difficult. Maybe the angle of the hole is off, I don't know. Anyway, at times it's best to leave my sleepers in. I bought some lobster clasps so I can hook dangles onto my sleepers without taking them out. 

This is what they look like. Unfortunately I ordered 9mm lobster clasps and they won't quite close. They will slip over the open sleeper but not latch on, so I'll have to get bigger ones.

I have some other charms to make into earring dangles so I'll see what the 11mm lobster clasps are like.

My village is having an Anglo- Saxon festival at the end of June ( we’ve had big archeological digs here). I wonder if I could add a yarn bombing. Any ideas on Anglo- Saxon themes?

My romantic assignment (in my creative writing class - I’m not slipping out on assignments 🤣) went ok, but I apparently didn't put enough slushy feeling into it. Now, I'm a feminist so I have always resisted that sort of "Oh my beating heart" writing. You know what I mean. Books with covers of nurses fainting before handsome doctors, that sort of thing.

We have another assignment in the same genre this week, with lots of "spanners in the works" so I've done a traveller boy who falls for the daughter of a cop. If a boy is doing the swooning, it seems easier for me to write.

Thea alternates between mad parkours of the garden and intense sleeping, with occasional visits for hugs like this one. She loves to lick my ear. A very strange feeling!

We went for a walk up Folkestone's Old High Street on Monday, looking for postcards.

It's become very pretty and arty, thanks to all the investment in our "Creative Quarter."

It's not feasible for us to go on holiday yet so I'm determined to make the most of our local area.. 

And finally, I have chosen a couple of cartoons that remind me (in a nice way!) of LLJ and family this week....

WOYWW 622 Pockets and stories

Hi all, another Wednesday blog hop courtesy of Julia at https://stamping-ground.blogspot.com. It’s amazing to think it will soon be the 12th anniversary for WOYWW. 

I’ve made some more ear savers this week as B went for his 2nd covid vaccination. We’re both double-jabbed now. He’s achy after his Astra Zeneca jab, but happy to be more protected. 

Lisa-Jane, yours will be in the post tomorrow. 

I’ve sewn up my cat stitch shawl but I haven’t put all the pockets on yet. Here’s a photo - in - progress to show one pocket. In general the revere will be the other way. It will also need blocking / ironing. 

I’m going to put blue pockets on the other side so it will be reversible. 

I’m watching All that Glitters on BBC2 while sewing this. I love this series. They are all so skilled. 

I have an idea I’m playing with for some earrings with interchangeable charms. I’m waiting for supplies I’ve ordered, but will hopefully have something to show on a future blog. 

I’ve been tied up developing my romance story all week. It fits as a chapter of my Paris-based novel in progress. 

It introduces Rafiq, a Kurdish journalist who is investigating the sale of looted silver. He has 1/2 inch eyelashes, and, for LLJ, muscly forearms from volunteering at a Paris community garden. He and Ellyn start out dismissing each other, but they’re gradually brought together, especially when she helps him identify looted silver at the Paris Silver fair...

Maybe you’ll be able to read it one day! I’m up to 19K words for the novel, even though I cut bits every so often. After an investment like that, I will have to carry on. My weekly creative writing class is a great help. I wouldn’t have brought in a romantic element without it. 

Thea is out more now the weather is better.
