I’ve been working more on my squares cardigan. This week I’ve tried a new way of joining squares. I think this “join as you go method” works better for me than my attempts at zipper stitch.
This blue square is quite Sex & drugs and rock n roll, in terms of its pattern I think. I might doa multi-coloured version.
One appearance that’s really pleased me this week is a baby spider plant. I was given this plant some 16 years ago, by friends where I was working in Paris.
It has never made babies before so I thought it never would; but here are roots!
We also went on a damson hunt this weekend. A farm near Sittingbourne had some. It was a bit of a navigational trek as the M2 was closed and our diversion took us through the wilds of deepest Kent. Worth it though- I adore damsons. We’ve stewed some for the freezer, had a nice crumble and I’ve discovered the joy of hot damson juice and ginger tea.
We also had a nice and very posh lunch at the Fordwich Arms in Fordwich, the smallest town in England. The restaurant has a gorgeous shaded terrace next to the river.

This is Gracie looking sneeped as Bella has got to my lap first. She curls up with me later in the evening, though.
Bella and Gracie send meows to all your cats. They both have beautiful fur with long feathery tails. Bella loves rolling in the leaf mould in the garden, so she comes in looking like a mobile compost heap!

The Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll theme made me smile - I just see psychedelic colours and lava lamp patterns but I don't think they would be easily crochet-able! Congratulations on your baby spider plant, I wonder what happened this year to make it feel the time was right.

ReplyDeleteYour squares are coming along brilliantly, Lynne! I love the titles of them. You will have fun explaining them to people when you are out and about wearing it when it's finished. A cardi with a story! The kitties are certainly happy in their new home, aren't they. Beautiful fur and tails. In the first photo, she looks as if she's wearing a tartan kilt! Our old Phoebe used to be like Bella - one of her favourite places to sleep in the garden was in the compost heap (nice and warm, I should think) and she used to bring in bits on her fur, and also would smell like a compost heap! Lily and Ruby send them purrs and meows. I think siblings are more likely to snuggle up together than unrelated cats. Beatrice and Phoebe hardly ever did, but Lily and Ruby do it all the time, especially in the winter (a bit too hot in the summer, I think). It's sweet to see. They wash each other, too.
ReplyDeleteI'm green with envy over the damsons - I adore them. I love all plums. We haven't had any this year. We bought a plum tree but it doesn't look as if it's going to survive. If it does, it will probably be several years before it produces any fruit. Our apple tree isn't producing nearly as many this year, but as I said to my hubby, we can't expect a bumper crop every year, and last year it was hard to keep up with them.
Thank you for your visit. I agree that sorting and curating stash is a hobby in itself. Some people decorate their storage boxes and make their craft rooms look so pretty but I've never had time for that unfortunately. Still lots of stamps to sort - it's going to take a while.
Interesting tip about holding something while your arms are above your head. For my radiotherapy my upper arms and wrists were supported in cradles and I could clasp my hands together if I wanted. I get a certain amount of muscle pain with my ME which doesn't help but they adjusted the arm rests to get me as comfortable as possible. Then my arms went to sleep! I couldn't move them at all at the end of each treatment and had to be manhandled back into a normal position. I've had lots of CT scans of my whole trunk to check for bowel cancer metastaes (liver/lung) so know about the position. They gave me a foam wedge to rest my arms on for those and that really helped. I'm sorry you've ended up with brittle bones as a result of steroids. The only time I've been on them was a low dose while having chemo for my colon cancer and I was reluctant to go on them but they said at that level they wouldn't do me any lasting harm.
I had a disaster with my tesserae this afternoon - I managed to knock over the stack of bowls into which they were all sorted, and they exploded everywhere on the sitting room carpet which is patterned! I had to grovel to find them all and later my hubby found some I'd missed. They were all sorted, and now they are all mixed up! Grrrr.

Sorry I’m late replying, been out all day! The squares are really lovely and yay for discovering a better new way of joining, I never seem to join squares neatly, there always seems to be a ridge - this is why I cop out and do stripes lol! Hooray for finding damsons (yum) and lovely days out, I’m so glad you had a great time with your cousin. I wonder if I’ve still got that pic, will send it if I can.

Joining as you go…definitely a way forward if you ask me, hope it turns into second nature! Loving all the patterns you’re creating on the squares. Fordwich looks really lovely, hasnt the sun been such a bonus this month. Glad you found a good Damson supply!
