WOYWW 744 chevrons and hook porn

Hi all,
Sorry I didn’t get round everyone last week. More migraines, I’m afraid.
Neet asked what the final chevron blanket would look like.
Here’s a photo from the paid pattern from Mary Maxim

I’ve done 9 x 2m strips out of about 12, I estimate, and then I have to join them up.
I wouldn’t pay the high price for the Mary Maxim yarn (about £12 a ball for acrylic when imported from the USA), so I’ve used a mixture of King Cole Bramble and Harvest, switching every so often with a magic knot

I’ve been distracted this week by hook porn, buying one of the gorgeous crochet hooks from Henryetta’s hooks. They have a Facebook page and the man who makes them switches from working on orders all week (about 8 weeks wait for one) to making random ones for pleasure at the weekends. Such dedication! If you’re quick you can buy one of the random ones and receive it in a couple of days. Mine is 4.5mm zebrano with a Rain forest pattern acrylic handle. It’s glorious!

I’ve a system to avoid these hooks going into black holes, as displayed by Bella. I use a green glasses cord on the hook and attach it to my piece by a gorgeous little orang yarn stitch marker that was one of the set included with my hook. It’s the Librarian, Jan!
Gracie and Bella both send purrs

And finally…

Take care and happy WOYWW
Hugs

  6. ouch! migraines! I remember them well . . . sometimes it can be worthwhile giving up chocolate, cream and cheese! They were the foods that helped cause mine, the triggers being emotional upsets and flashing lights.
Loving your crochet and it looks as though it will be magnificent when finished. Love your hook.
Take care, especially in this heat

  8. Oh I used to love getting the Mary Maxim and ... Herrschners (?) catalogs and talk about yarn porn? It was a case of making a list, slowly whittling it down, and trying to stick to a budget. Sorry to hear about the migraine. I have not been cursed with those and count myself lucky. Rest up and feel better soon.

    Happy sunny WOYWW!

  9. Came back cause you commented as ANONYMOUS so I don't think my reply would go to you :). If you click the link near the top of the post it will show you DELI PAPER on Amazon. I don't think there is any sort of exact match for it. Parchment paper repels the ink, greaseproof paper is like waxed paper, same thing, repels the ink. I think tissue paper might work but I would say wet strength only, not gift wrap paper! I have many more experiments to try... :) Will update you MA

  10. Sorry I’m late commenting, those hooks are beautiful and I can see why you’re determined not to lose this one. The chevron strips look so effective in the blanket, it’ll be so smart when you’re finished. The funnies made me hoot, you do find some good ones. Sorry to hear about the migraines though, they’re so debilitating.

  15. Oh my goodness, got a bit involved with the end of the acrylics course and seem to have signed up for a watercolour one too (wed-fri) and what with the heat and not sleeping even worse that usual, I'm only just emerging form all the stuff and the dust is settling.

What a lovely crochet hook and glad you have devised a system so you don't misplace it.

  16. Hook porn, love it! Sure is a great job if you carrying o making the odd one for fun in between work work! We have zebrano worktops and patio doors. One of our fave timbers! Brilliant choice of yarns for the chevron blanket, I presumed you had variegated balls (pardon me!) so as usual, you’re doing a great job!
