I haven’t done a lot of crafting this week, partly because Thea is ill (more detail on that below.)
I swapped the ear wires on some earrings I got for my birthday on Saturday.
I also finished the hat I crocheted. The wired brim was a challenge. I used a craft wire, maybe millinery wire is easier.
I ended up using Sugru to secure the ends of the wire. I think you can buy special joiners via millinery suppliers but only in bulk. Thanks Julia, you mentioned Sugru a long time ago. It worked a treat.
Here’s the hat.
This shows the Sugru before it was covered.
The brim is a bit wayward but I’m happy overall. The pattern is on YouTube.
I’ve also had a couple of lovely ATCs:
2 from Lyn Spyder’s corner in a cute packet2
Is it from you Lisa- Jane?
I also had this great birthday card from Jan
By the way, has everyone in the Northern Hemisphere got their eclipse glasses for tomorrow? It’s only a partial one here, unlike the 1999 one, which I remember watching with colleagues in Regents Park. There are timings for tomorrow in this link.
So Thea. She likes to lick my ear. She has a rough tongue but she means well!
They think it’s a urinary infection. Fingers crossed it’s not kidneys. She is feeling a bit better after all the antibiotics and other medicine. One is a capsule I have to break open and split into 8. That’s right, 8. A craft knife and lots of little wraps of tinfoil. Looks like a drug factory!
We’ve been doing a lot of running to and from the vets and to and from the cat food shop to get exactly the right variety of fish soup that she’d eat when feeling off colour. Of course, once I've found them she goes off them and wants the gourmet sachets of cat food instead. WE don't iond.
She is looking brighter now.
Oh I’m pleased to hear that Theo has improved, what a worry. Good sign when she turns down one food in favour of another, means she hasn’t forgotten that she’s a cat! Pleased the Sugru worked, what a great idea the wired brim is. And you’ve got to love anything that’s wayward, great word!
ReplyDeleteYour hat turned out great. I loved the use of granny squares. And it looks so good on you, too. Your poor kitty. I hope she is better soon. You got some lovely ATCs. Happy WOYWW from # 3.
ReplyDeleteI laughed at the Pavlov’s cat, as I get up (again) to let Ron in through the patio door! I’m glad you liked the card, it made me laugh too. Hey, that hat looks fantastic, you rock it - I would look stupid in it, hats just don’t suit me at all (with the exception of the one you knitted for me, I still wear that in the winter). I’m glad Thea is picking up a bit and hope it continues so we can see you in a couple of weeks, got everything crossed!

That's a great hat pattern - you made it perfectly - I bet that wire was tricky though. I love Jan's cheeky card and the Pavlov funny - that's cats for you! xx Jo
ReplyDeleteHappy belated Birthday, what a fab card that is from Jan, made me giggle. The hat came out a treat although I think I would melt in it right now.. I hope Thea continues on the recovery road.

ReplyDeleteOh poor little Thea, Lynne. I'm glad she's feeling a bit better. She's such an affectionate little thing, isn't she! Give her a cuddle from me. Lily and Ruby send get-well purrs to her. It sounds quite a business, dividing up he capsules like that. One of our old kitties, Phoebe, had epilepsy and we had to draw up tiny amounts of the medication into a little syringe to get exactly the right amount - just a few drops - to sprinkle on her food. It took a while to get her stabilised. The other kitty, Beatrice, had a very delicate stomach and we had to get special food for her online - all this meant they had to be fed separately. Beatrice was shut in the downstairs loo with her bowl, and quite often my hubby would forget to let her out again!!! Life is so simple with our current kitties by comparison - they just stick their heads in their bowls and get on with it, with no meds or anything. Of course, they are still young and fit! Ruby does tend to bolt her food and then it all comes up again.
ReplyDeleteYour hat is amazing! Sorry you had a bit of a struggle with the brim. It looks fine to me. Sugru is pretty amazing stuff. The earrings are fabulous, and co-ordinate beautifully with the new hat!
I've seen both your funnies before, and absolutely love them! I think I saved the first one on my hard drive. I must look.
Happy WOYWW,

Sorry to hear that Thea has been poorly Lynne but glad that she is improving. Love the hat and nearly spat out my coffee at the Pavlov's cats funny. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #4
ReplyDeleteHi Lynne, yes that one was from me. I managed to leave off the details on several of the cards, no idea how!! Love the hat - very natty! I do admire people who can make useful works of art! Bye for now, Lisa-Jane #8
ReplyDeleteThank you for your two visits, Lynne, and for all your encouragement! I shall be fine, whatever happens. Thank you also for your email - not sure what happened about your comment, but it was there with the others awaiting moderation as normal. As you know, with the Persian Tiles, you have to fasten off after each round, and then start the next round with a new colour. I'm just taking the correct ball out of the bag and using it, so no need to wind bobbins or anything. My new knitting/crochet bag has nice compartments for lots of different yarns so it's easy to find them. Lovely to see your Persian Tiles again (and to read about poor old Dino...) - I do hope you will finish that project - from what you wrote, it sounds as if you've finished the motifs and just have to join them up. I love the colours you have chosen! It does work well with random colours, doesn't it. It's such a versatile pattern. For our room, I felt that a limited palette, and all the motifs the same, would work best. Thanks for the suggestion about the bobbins, anyway - they do look lovely!

PS Hope you got my first comment - it doesn't seem to be there yet.
Hiya Lynne - just a quick pop by to say Hi - I am - like every one seems to be "flat out like a lizard drinkin" to use an Aussie expression LOL! Gorgeous stuff on your desk those earrings are beautiful! Have a great week - Stay safe & well - Cheers Maurs xxx #35
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem with the last cat I had, travelled all over for things for him to eat. They can be extremely fickle creatures at times can't they!
ReplyDeleteLove the ear rings, what a gorgeous colour. The hat looks rather nice too, hope it gets some use with lots of sunshine.
Thanks for the walk down memory lane, inspired by Pavlov - I remember when I first started Uni - someone on the bus was reading about Piage - I thought she must be a music student - soon learned otherwise! LOL
Hugs, Neet 5 xx
Such a lovely blogpost with all kinds of little 'events' to read... I love the hat your crochet, might take a look at that pattern myself. I hope Thea is doing well by now, cat's have their way to make you run and obey isn't it?! Thanks for your visit to my blog the other day, big hug to you beautiful one! Love from Holland. Marit #20 (P.S. Cataract surgery went very well, I am in the healing mode right now but am able to spend some time at the computer... and I can SEE well, yay!!! )
