WOYWW 795 Watercolours and crochet

Hi all, back again for our weekly blog hop care of Sarah’s craft shed
I have a large ‘nurses’ bag’ I got from Amazon for my art supplies but I got so fed up with losing stuff in it that it’s now organised into separate plastic bags inside: paint, sponges, accessories, water pots.

I’ve also organised my brushes into a new brush roll so I’m not struggling to find space for them all.
So I’m all set now for the new term. I wasn’t like that at school, I tell you. 🤣🤣.

My desk this week:

I wasn’t happy with my first attempt at painting Hokusai’s Boy Watching Mount Fuji so I’ve started again.

Number 2:
There’s still a way to go…

Bella’s happier when I’m crocheting than painting as she can sleep on my knee when I’m crocheting.
I’m joining up at the mo’.

Bella sends you all purrs.
And finally….

Take care and happy WOYWW

WOYWW Hokusai Sashiko and Drawing

Hi all,
I’m back again to join in with our blog hop courtesy of Sarahscraftshed
I’ve  nearly finished my sashiko panel but don’t know what to do with it - any ideas welcome.
I did it because it was a challenge I wanted to do, and because I’m feeling nostalgic about Japan. I gave into the temptation of looking at one such holiday on Facebook so now my feed is full of holidays there!

I still need to tidy the back and make it up into something.
Bella helped, of course, and sends you all purrs.

I’m also planning a watercolour of my favourite Hokusai: The Boy Watching Mt Fuji. I’ve started with a pencil drawing of the boy and then used a few Inktense pencils to colour it.

On Sunday there was a dragonfly outside our house. It didn’t move when we approached so I got some sugar water and dribbled it in front of it. I saw it drink some and when we went back later it was gone so I hope it flew away safely. I’ve asked the Dragonfly group on Facebook and they think it might be an immature female Migrant Hawker.
I’m still making c2c squares for B’s slipover.

And finally…

Take care and happy WOYWW

WOYWW 793 travel and sashiko

Hi all, I’m looking forward to joining up with you all on our weekly bloghop care of Sarah’s Craftshed. I’ve not had chance to do much crafting this week as I went to Stoke to meet up with my cousins, including one who’s visiting from Oz and another who’s emigrating there tomorrow.
I have started a bit of slow stitching, a Sashiko panel of Hokusai’s Great Wave off Kanagawa. I love Hokusai and Hiroshige’s work.

I’ve not got far yet! It’s a nice puzzle working out routes that avoid big stitches on the back, that could pull the work. I’ve learned a trick of sewing alternate stitches on an isolated line so I can go back the same way. Of course, Bella’s a big help. 😻

This is what the finished one looks like.
I’ve bought some extra colours of fine sashiko thread to use:

It’ll keep me good for a while! I’m still crocheting my squares jumper when it’s cool enough, and did a couple more squares on the train.
It was lovely to see my cousins on my mother’s side. The star was my goddaughter’s daughter, who celebrated her first birthday and refuses to be separated from the book I bought her. Clever girl!

Here we all are:

WOYWW 792 watercolour and crochet

Hi all, I’m glad to be back at our bloghop care of Sarahscraftshed.co.uk. I hope you can join in.
This week seems to have come round very quickly; I’m not sure where it’s gone. Sending big hugs to LLJ and her G who are feeling poorly with Covid.
I’ve not had much time to try out my new paints apart from following a tutorial by Olga Koelsch on painting transparent flowers. It popped up on facebook and you can see examples here. https://m.youtube.com/@olgakoelsch? Her flowers are very beautiful and delicate. I struggled with making flowers translucent so I thought I’d give it a go.
I’m not completely happy with my results; I should have used a hairdryer between stages. I get the idea though, of using very dilute washes.
Her example is here:
My friend, Liz, was judging at the Festival of Quilts last week. I asked her to buy me some sashiko needles. She also came back with a lovely present for me, some Japanese notebooks.

They have one page ruled then one page blank so will be handy for both writing and art! I’m going to Stoke on the train (and replacement bus - 😮‍💨) on Saturday for a family party on Sunday. It’s my goddaughter’s daughter’s first birthday, my cousin Jon is over from Australia and another cousinette (B’s name for my cousins’ daughters) is emigrating to Australia next week. So lots of travelling to use my new notebooks, and to crochet more squares.

I think I’ve worked out a way to do triangles for the v neck, as well, by doing half c2c squares but I need lots more.
Bella has been a real cutie and sends purrs to you all.
