WOYWW 860 Squirrel,& blanket crochet

Hi all,
I’m joining in with our weekly bloghop care of Sarah’s craftshed. Sending big hugs to Neet in hospital and hoping you’re on the mend.
Firstly, here’s my desk. I suspect shares in Schminke masking fluid will have gone up this week, as I’ve used so much on my squirrel painting. I think another coat of dark green is needed, but here’s what it looks like now.

I’ve also been colour matching for the fur.

I’ll be back at art class tomorrow, where we’re learning about techniques for painting fur.
My chevron blanket is nearing completion and I’m still steadfastly looking away from my next project as I need to get the blanket done. Bella is helping of course. Here, she’s testing it for snuggles. It passes😻
My shoulder has improved, thanks to a steroid injection from my friendly physio, and my finger’s getting better. That’s enough now!
It was a beautiful day today, cold but bright. I see our apricot tree is getting confused as it’s flowering already. Not good news as we doubt these blossoms will set fruit.

And finally…

I’ll be round to visit after art class - put the kettle on!

WOYWW 859 Art and dark age Kent.

Hi all, sending big hugs from us and purrs from Bella to Neet, hoping you get better soon.
Here’s my art class desk from last week. You can’t really see my drawing but I’m having trouble getting the size of the squirrel’s head right.

And here are all our autumn vegetables from 2 weeks ago.
There are some beautiful paintings

Sadly, as I got home, my art bag (A2 size) got stuck in our kitchen door and I damaged my shoulder, pulling it free.  It’s been quite a saga going from a broken or torn shoulder cuff diagnosis to the cuff muscles being pinched between bones.  I’ve had a steroid jab to reduce the inflammation ,and am on Dihydrocodeine which is infinitely better than nasty sickness-inducing Tramadol.
I’ve managed to do a bit more crochet, with Bella’s help, just more blanket strippery.

A local friend took this brilliant photo of Hengist and Horsa’s white horse. It’s tricky to get a good angle as it’s behind the Eurotunnel terminal. I’d like to paint that one day, it’s more like the spirit of a wild horse, than the groomed one that’s the emblem of Kent.

Here’s more about Hengist and Horsa, as I’m not sure they feature in dark age history much beyond Kent.
Bella sends purrs to you all, in an ‘elegant’pose on my first chevron blanket. 😻

And finally …

I’ll be around this morning to visit as I can’t go to art class

WOYWW 858 Alliums and crochet

Hi all, here for our weekly bloghop courtesy of Sarah’s craftshed, firstly sending healing hugs to Neet. Then here’s my desk:

This is my charcoal and watercolour study of alliums, the idea is that they’ve just come in from he garden.
We’re staying with an autumnal theme this week, doing squirrels. I’m very tempted by this one, quite the fluffiest I’ve seen, but it might be tricky as we’re not allowed to use white.

This one might be easier:

My crochet keeps growing:
Supervised by Bella who sends you all purrs.
I’m very much enjoying The Game of Wool. This week, one challenge was dog outfits based on icons such as David Bowie. Very silly, Bella said, she most definitely did not want one.
There was a dot jumper by Knitting for Olive that I liked, worn by one of the contestants.   I looked up their yarn and it was v expensive. Worse than that, they wanted £15 in tax, as it was coming from Denmark. I complained as I’ve never paid that with Hobbii and they explained it was because I was American. Well, they got a very stiff email back and I looked elsewhere.
I have the idea of making the circles from multicoloured yarn on a beigy background (about a third of the price of KfO yarn but still wool and angora).

I will finish my blanket first, though.
And finally

I’ll be round after art class - put the kettle on!

WOYWW 857 Charcoal, music and crochet.

Hi all, I’m back for our weekly bloghop care of Sarah’s Craftshed. Firstly, our thoughts are with Neet and hoping she feels better.
My desk this week shows my new project, autumn vegetables.

So far, I’ve been doing the charcoal drawing of my red onion, brown onion and bulb of purple garlic.  I’ve printed a mono photo to help with the different values. We’re adding watercolours this week.
Here are 2 collages of our class’s fungi from last week. You can see the quality of their paintings, so you’ll understand if I judge myself harshly.

We very much enjoyed the Tallis Singers’ concert on Saturday, and the setting in Canterbury cathedral was superb.  They sang acapella Renaissance sacred music by Tallis, Gibbons et al, from the 16th and 17th centuries.
I also loved C4’s the Game of Wool on Sunday, though I thought a different contestant should have gone out. Next week they’re making dog coats so I asked Bella if she’d like a coat and hat but she wasn’t impressed.
She prefers to wear just her own coat, thank you, even when supervising my crochet! She sends you all purrs.
This is what she looks like when I wake her so I can go to bed. Super cuteness to try to persuade me not to disturb her. 😻

I’ve made 9 of 12 strips of my blanket.

And finally,
I can understand how this elephant felt as I’ve been to the physio, who uses acupuncture as well as massage on my back.

I’ll be round to visit after art class,
Hugs
