WOYWW 628 Anglo Saxon Scarecrow

Hi, back this week for our blog hop around the desks, courtesy of Julia at the Stamping Ground. Click on the WOYWW 12 to the right of this post to find out more.
I haven’t done much crafting this week as Thea is still ill, but:
May I present my Anglo-Saxon scarecrow?
He now has a magnificent Saxon war axe, courtesy of B. We were wondering how realistic it should be but when B offered to parade it in front of the police station to see if he got arrested, we decided to keep it obviously unrealistic.

He has a raven insignia, for Odin, but his missus has sewn on a cross, just to be sure.

He will be taken to our front garden this weekend to be displayed as part of the Lyminge Anglo Saxon festival. I’m not sure how much of that will go ahead now, with this week’s sensible extension of lockdown, but he’ll be there.

I also had a lovely surprise on Thursday, just as I was getting ready for the eclipse. The post came with this birthday present from Jan, crafted by our own Diana Taylor. Isn’t it wonderful!

The weather has been lovely down here. This is from our walk on Sunday, past St Ethelburga’s well.

Thea is still unwell. We’re waiting for more test results from the vet. She has only consented to eat these past couple of days while sitting on my shoulder.
She even dropped bits of cat food down the back of my neck before I learned to put a napkin there.

and finally..

Take care and keep on crafting!
hugs

  2. What a fabulous scarecrow. It's too bad about the festivities. It would be nice they could be held, but scaled back slightly. You did a great job on it. I love his hair and beard.

Your birthday gift is beautiful. Sorry to read about your baby. Thea is beautiful. Happy WOYWW from # 4.

  3. I saw that shell from Jan somewhere - it really is absolutely beautiful. How lucky are you!
Your scarecrow is looking magnificent and will get many photo shoots no doubt this weekend. I hope you get to walk about and take some snaps of the various gardens. I wish we did something like that here.
So sorry to hear Thea is still not well and not eating much. Has the vet not made a diagnosis as yet? Is she drinking a lot? It is a worry when our furry babes are poorly. Hoping things get better for her soon.
    Hugs, Neet 5 xx

  5. He's a fine creation is your scarecrow, good move with the handmade axe, best to be safe if he's going to be on display. Fingers crossed you can all still celebrate even with the extension of lockdown.
What a beautiful gift from Jan, Diana's work is always outstanding.
Wishing Thea all the best Lynn and hope it is just the heat that is keeping her off her food.
Take care & Happy WoywW Tracey #9

  6. Only B could have that idea to test the authenticity of the axe, lol!! The scarecrow looks amazing, I hope that the predicted thunderstorms pass through before the festival starts. I still love his dreads (the scarecrow not B!), they’re a brilliant part of him. Fingers crossed that Thea will pick up, it’s so hard when they’re poorly, bless them. The funnies were great too, they made me laugh!

He only wanted tuna this morning and has now nipped off to his bench in the garden. Love the scargrow! We have a fete here in September where everyone is invited to make one! 8. The scarecrow is looking great, what an impressive chap he is - I hope the weather holds our for your festival. I do hope Thea gets better soon, it's always such a worry as they can't tell you how they are feeling.

  9. I am so sorry Thea is still poorly, I do hope the Vet can come up with something to make her better. Thank you for your visit. Heat helps my shoulder, sometimes my husband rubs in Deep Heat, but it is so stinky! I have a heat wrap which works well too, there is precious little I can do that doesn’t aggravate it. I do enjoy reading, I have quite eclectic tastes, but I often go back to books I have enjoyed and read them again. Angel #18

  12. Wonderful happy mail, Lynne - and it looks as if it's in the sea with the pretty blue paper. The scarecrow is fun! Probably a wise move not to make his weapon too offensive! I am so sorry to hear that Thea is still poorly - what a worry for you. I do hope they can find out soon what's wrong, and be able to help her. It's very touching that she will only eat when close to you like that - she obviously needs the comfort at the moment. You will see from my blog that you aren't the only one who has ended up with food inside their clothing this week!

    Happy WOYWW,
