I have started a bit of slow stitching, a Sashiko panel of Hokusai’s Great Wave off Kanagawa. I love Hokusai and Hiroshige’s work.
I’ve not got far yet! It’s a nice puzzle working out routes that avoid big stitches on the back, that could pull the work. I’ve learned a trick of sewing alternate stitches on an isolated line so I can go back the same way. Of course, Bella’s a big help. 😻

I’ve bought some extra colours of fine sashiko thread to use:
It’ll keep me good for a while! I’m still crocheting my squares jumper when it’s cool enough, and did a couple more squares on the train.
It was lovely to see my cousins on my mother’s side. The star was my goddaughter’s daughter, who celebrated her first birthday and refuses to be separated from the book I bought her. Clever girl!

Your latest project is lovely - I have always been drawn to the Great Wave. Cannot imagine it is easy to replicate in Sashiko. Good luck with it and I look forward to seeing what you end up with.
The family photo is a treasure for you and I had to smile at you buying a book for the little one. I always buy books for children when I can.

Lots of great things to see on your blog today! How lovely to see you and the family in Stoke, a fab occasion - I loved the attention to the book reading! The sashiko is fun too, I bet it’s quite zen to do and a lot cooler than crochet in this hot weather. The funnies made me laugh, especially the last one, that’s a bit too close for comfort!!

Your wave is going to be beautiful . And yeah, no surprise the backs of every needlework I have ever done is a nightmare mess! What a little sweetie she is with her book. Start 'em early I say. That stitching looks very taxing and I'm super impressed that you're managing the tension without a hoop / frame. I bet that was a great day for you all. Lovely photo. I smiled at the photo of the African Greys, can't think why they moved them as it had to be visitors that have taught them to swear. My mother lived next door to an old man that had one and the parrot was so naughty, he would wolf whistle at girls that walked past the house as the owner used to put his cage outside in the summer. His other favourite game was waiting till the old man went upstairs and then it would make the sound of the phone ringing, so naughty but we loved him. Have a good woyww. Hugs Angela x12x
