WOYWW 686: Tizzy, silk and campaigning

Hi all,
Back again for our Wednesday bloghop via The Stamping ground. Why not have a look and join in?
Here's my completed big Tizzy square. Now I'm on smaller ones for the fronts and sleeves.
As I write this, I'm surrounded by bags and boxes of silk samples, which were given to me for free, by Hayley, who's in our Community Action Group. She used to be a fabric designer but has left that industry - she says it's too 'Throwaway', and was looking for someone to take all these samples to save them going to the tip. One friend runs a quilting group, and has taken a big bag, a box is on its way to Jan and another to Annie. A bag is going to a new school teacher who wanted fabric to decorate her school room. There were tigers and gymnasts, space and cars, tropics and fruits that will be great for them.

And there's still lots left! The only stipulation is that it's not used commercially. If you'd like some, let me know! They're all about the size of the blue one below, mixed patterns, silk and crepe de chine, all jumbled up. Email me at Lmcollis@iclouddotcom with your address. I'll charge you postage and apart from that you can make a donation to our Community Action Group. [See below].

I don't sew much but I've saved a bit for myself. I might even make Bella and Gracie silk cushions. πŸ˜€The reason I've not done much commenting this week, is that I've been part of a group fighting the closure for SIX WEEKS of the road through our village.

The developer had done no assessment of the risks to the community, presented no analysis of alternative option. Ambulances and fire engines were going to have to use a single track road with passing places and the old and handicapped were faced with a mile walk uphill to the bus.
Kent Messenger reported the story here: How will ambulances get through? On Sunday night, I really thought we'd lost. They put the closure signs up on Monday morning, but then had a meeting and took them down at 1pm. They then put up this sign.
Our statement was as follows
We collected over a 1000 signatures for our petition in 4 days, sent legal letters, wrote to councillors and our MP. We put the case that the closure should not go ahead without alternatives being considered and the risks to villagers being properly assessed and managed.
We are delighted that Pentland Homes have had to listen to us.

We've won a battle, not the war but we're now in a better position to fight them. I just love this banner for our Community Action Group - Lyminge and surrounding areas. Hayley photoshopped it for us.

Bella and Gracie send purrs to you all. They want to know why I have this black thing on my lap, I'm tapping my fingers on, instead of them, and why I've taken no new photos of them.

And finally....

Take care and happy crafting,
hugs

WOYWW 685: Tizzy, travels and travails

Hi all, I’m back for our weekly blog hop c/o Julia at the Stamping-Ground
I’ve not done a lot of crafting this week, partly because of the heat and also because we’ve been travelling!
Tizzy first:

My first square is nearly finished.  That will make the main part of the back, then I’ll do smaller squares for the front and sleeves.
Last week we had a lovely trip to south and west Wales: Penarth, Burry Port, Llanboidy, Pontyberem and Swansea.
We saw LLJ and family. Biggest hugs after so long! I had sorted out some wool for Jan’s blankets. She never can resist doing this, even though I miss it the first time and have to get her to do it again for the camera 🀣

We stayed in the White House as well.

It’s the original one, built by the Adams family before John Adams, who became 2nd USA President, built THE White House.
Check out Jabajak Vineyard - it’s a lovely place to stay.
As well as Jan and family, we saw Brian’s sister, his cousin and some other old friends.
It was great to see them all after so long. πŸ’•
Bella and Gracie are relaxing in the shade since we got home.

We feed them Sheba fish soup in this weather.
We have a fight on our hands at home. Pentland homes are building new houses at the entrance to the village and want to close the only twin track road between here and Folkestone or Ashford (A&E) for 6 weeks.  They’ve done no risk assessment of the effect on the community and seem to think it ok for emergency services to have to go via single track roads along with the whole village, combine harvesters etc. Grrrr! I’m reporting them to the HSE tomorrow.

Anyway, onto my ‘and finally…’

Take care, stay cool and happy crafting!
Hugs

WOYWW 684: How to stop losing my crochet hook

Hi,
I’m scheduling this post as we plan to be away next Wednesday- seeing Jan and family- yay!
Tizzy progress has been slowed this week as I kept losing my crochet hook.
I’m now trying a new way of securing it, with one of those cords you get to hang reading glasses round your neck. Here’s hoping it will work!

The big tizzy square is growing though, triangle 3 is almost done.
I’ve also done my Wimbly/ suffragette hat

It was a year this week since Bella and Gracie adopted us so we called it their birthday and bought them catnip balls which they love.

And finally…

Take care and enjoy your crafting!

WOYWW 683: Growing Tizzy and a Summer hat

Hi all,
Back for another Wednesday bloghop care of Julia at The Stamping Ground
My Tizzy square is growing and I’ll soon have to work out how big to make the smaller squares for the front.
I’ve been watching the tennis (hasn’t it been good?) πŸ˜€I quite like the hats they wear in Wimbly’s royal box. I don’t fancy paying the best part of £100 for one though, so I bought a £10 Panama off EBay and I’m going to tack on some suffragette ribbon.

It was our wedding anniversary on Monday (39 years!) We had a lovely meal out at a pub nearby, the Black Horse, run by a friendly Italian family.

For our silver wedding, we bought two apricot trees. They don’t always fruit, but we’re doing quite well this year.

Bella and Gracie have been enjoying the sunshine

And finally…

Take care and enjoy your crafting!
Hugs
