WOYWW 782 Wax resist, hare- painting, boho crochet

Hi all,
Here’s my desk this week at art class where we started to play with wax resist.
Using oil pastels, wax crayons, candles and PVA glue, we lay down layers that will resist a later application of watercolour, to provide pops of colour, patterns, or highlights.
After half-term, we’ll use these on a still life.
The break allows me to catch up with my ink/twig/feather and watercolour hare. I want to do a wet in wet section underneath its back, with stretched clingfilm to suggest grasses, but then it’s finished, I think.
Here are my ATCs from the crop:

Caro, Neet, Julia, Mary Anne,Angela, another CaroI think, (Bella has just sat on my lap and disrupted them😹)with Eva and Neet in the front row.
Cindy, Annie, my * one from Annie, Jo and Sarah
And a lovely card from Julia thanking us for her gift.
I’m sure one or two have gone astray but I’ll display them again.
This one just arrived from Susan Renshaw.

The boho bag is progressing. I’ll sew it over a plain cotton bag.
And finally…

I always liked Wiley Coyote- I have a theory that if you don’t look down, you don’t fall.

Take care and happy WOYWW

WOYWW 781 crop and arts

Hi all, Thank you, Sarah, for taking over.  Wasn’t last Saturday’s crop great?

We gossiped, crafted, introduced the people from outside Stoke to Staffordshire oatcakes (delicious!) and I gave Neet a crochet lesson.
For those who weren’t there, oatcakes are a sort of yeasted pancake made with oatmeal. You traditionally have them with melted cheese and bacon.
I have a different view of them for you. I went to a craft shop, Two Doors Studio in Alsager, and they have an artist who stamps with oatcakes!

I’ll find the artists name again but the pictures are  on sale at the brilliant Two Doors Studio in Alsager, Stoke-On-Trent. They sell gifts, cards and art from local artists and it’s run by Lorna and Steve Plant, very old friends we’ve known since the 1970s but had lost contact with.
For my part oatcakes are too precious to craft with but they’re available everywhere in Stoke so that gives you a different point of view.
Today I visited the brilliant International Watercolour Masters exhibition and demo. It’s on for the rest of the week at Lilleshall hall, near Newport, Shropshire.
This is by my art tutor, Claire Sparkes. Today was a demo by a Peruvian artist, Nicholas Lopez. He uses grades of black watercolour, big flat brushes and lots of water. My black splash on my hare this week didn’t seem to matter so much! He did two pictures of Lilleshall hall in less than an hour.
Very impressive and completely different techniques so really interesting.

I’m so late as the storm clouds followed me for all the 250mile journey home so I’ll do ATCs next week.

Take care and happy WOYWW

WOYWW 780 Happy crystal anniversary!

Hi all and happy 15th (crystal) anniversary of WOYWW! It’s a fantastic achievement to keep this weekly share going, so thanks to Miss Julia and to us all for contributing. I appreciate your friendship so much. ❤️
I’ve used my Waterford crystal dolphin as an emblem of the anniversary and theme of my ATCs, placed in front of a painting from fb. I’ll keep most for the crop but let me know if you want to swap otherwise via Lmcollis(at)icloud(dot)com.

The painting is by Sue Goldberg.
My desk at art class this week was less messy than I imagined as we were dipping the twigs into ink to draw the hare. Watercolour will be added later.

I was using a feather borrowed from our tutor for the fur. Someone else wanted it so I sped up, hence the nasty blotch on its back. It might scratch off when I’ve finished.
I did get to use the new brush rest Brian made for me from a coaster and corks. It’s really good! There are two half corks on the back so the brushes slope downwards to avoid moisture collecting in the ferrules.
I saw this picture of a bag for holidays online. I didn’t buy the pattern but I’m making a similar one for myself.

I’ll use a plain tote as a lining.

I’ve had to remind myself how to whip cord. There’s a link below.

Bella has been enjoying the better weather, here she was in our apricot tree.
And finally:

Happy anniversary!

WOYWW 779

Hi all,
Here’s my desk for this week.

We’re starting an ink and wash project, using waterproof ink and twigs, believe it or not, for the outline and fur. I’ve bought a cheap black smock - it could be messy!
I don’t seem to have taken a photo of my croissant / hot cross bun picture. I wasn’t happy with it for a couple of reasons. My bake-it-yourself croissant came out too small and the technique of wiping out patterns in the serviette with stencils didn’t work out well.
Hey ho!
I have an idea for ATCs but nothing to show yet.

Bella is modelling my C2C (corner-to-corner) squares, which will grow into a new pullover for Brian.

And finally…

Take care and happy WOYWW
