WOYWW 608 Spirals and cats

Hi all, back for another Wednesday peek at what we’re all up to, courtesy of Julia at  The Stamping Ground
My nostepinne has had a lot of use this week as I’m starting a cat stitch pocket shawl.

When I put the yarns together I was a bit worried they didn’t provide enough contrast for the pattern but I’m enjoying it.

I’ve also finally succeeded with spiral Dorset buttons. I’m pleased with these. The Suffragette yarn from Beaker Buttons helps!

When Thea comes for a cuddle she wraps herself round my neck. This week it almost felt like she was pushing my head out of the way! She’s being a bit more independent now and has a current love affair going on with the middle room radiator.

Thanks for all your good wishes last week; the new Zolmig nasal spray seems to work well.

LLJ has been having a sort out of old photos this week. I’ve really enjoyed seeing photos of us back in the 1980s. I can’t believe how big my glasses were!

And finally....

Stay safe all, and happy WOYWW!

WOYWW 607 Spirals

Hi all, back again for our weekly blog hop kindly hosted by Julia at The Stamping Ground
I don’t feel I’ve been very productive this week. Eye-watering headaches that have now been diagnosed as cluster headaches so I’ve a nose spray on the way. Sorry if I haven’t visited much.

I have a minuscule workspace at present. I’m trying to make spiral Dorset buttons.

They're not featured in the huge manual I bought from Beaker buttons.    I’m trying one now using two needles to make it more spiral.
After struggling with that, I called the very helpful Jen from
Beaker buttons, and she helped me spiralise it 😏

Here are the ones I made for my own Ammonite wrist warmers.

At least one day this week has been good enough weather for a walk. Here is one of the oldest houses in our village. The village itself is much older though; they’ve dug up Bronze Age remains by the church, and it was an important Anglo-Saxon abbey: Lyminge Archeology

Thea doesn’t go far but she likes a parkour over our neighbour’s fence and kitchen. Not bad for hibernation season!

Haven’t seen many cartoons this week but I liked this one...

And this magazine cover made me giggle.

WOYWW 606 Midwinter dragons

Hi all, happy to be back for our Wednesday blog hop via Julia at The Stamping Ground
My workspace this week is a jumble of Embroidery and sashiko threads. I’m assembling them to make some more Dorset buttons. I’m waiting for more rings to arrive.

If you’d like to know more about this 400 year old craft, here’s a link to the very friendly and helpful Beaker buttons

My ammonite wrist warmers are awaiting their buttons.

My friend was very pleased with her beekeeper hat.  As B has spent so much time kindly modelling hats and gloves for others, I thought he should have a hat

He supports the Llanelli Scarlets rugby team, so I was trying very hard to get the dragon emblem right. I could see I’d need front post crochet for the wings but it was hard to get the angle right, and I kept having to undo and try again.
I showed it to him and he said ‘Oh we just use a saucepan, it’s easier” (the other symbol, for the tinplate works). Well, reader, he nearly got strangled with my yarn.🤬🤬🤬 I was furious but it was funny as well.
Once it was done he saw the finished dragon and was suitably impressed.

I’ve also finished my green and bronze shawl this week. It goes with a green and bronze dress, which I’ll get the chance to wear one day, I hope 😔

Thea has us well under her thumb. Between meals/ sleeps she comes to me for a proper greeting of rubbing heads ( I’ve seen lionesses do the same on TV). She also, rather strangely, likes to lick my right ear. A very peculiar sensation!
She then stands on B’s knee and demands treats, before settling down  for a cuddle.
Her usual greeting to us is a sort of MRRP? noise, so she sends a MRRP? to your cats, too.
She seems happy to spend all her time in the house, as do we now. This is her “no you’re not going to do any crochet now because I’m lying on your arm and on your crochet” pose.

Thankfully the lockdown is starting to work and Kent covid figures have started to drop for the first week in a long time. I’m in group 4 and so apparently scheduled to get the vaccine by mid- Feb. Fingers crossed!
And if I’m feeling down I say I’m not locked down, vulnerable, shielded, I am the Artist and Writer in Residence!
And finally...

Take care, stay safe and happy WOYWW

WOYWW 605 Buttons and bees

Hi all, Happy new year to you all!

We’re back for our Wednesday blog hop, via The Stamping Ground  and back in lockdown. I know it’s hard for some but the way the covid rates were rising even in T4, it’s all we can do.
My desk this week reflects my current fad for making Dorset buttons and other embellishments.

I’ve used a mix of Embroidery and sashiko thread and am waiting for further supplies to complete buttons for my latest Ammonite gloves below. I’m also making a hat for a beekeeping friend so I’ve  made a bee for her hat. I do hope the bees don’t think it’s threatening!

Here’s B doing his excellent modelling again.

Last week I asked how old the little pot I got for Christmas might be. Well, it’s from the Hoi An hoard, on a boat which sank in the Dragon sea in about 1480, so it’s over 500 years old.
I just love thinking about everything that happened overhead while it lay in its ship on the sea bed. I wrote about it here: My Hoi An pot
Apart from the major pieces, which were kept by the Vietnam museums, they sold the smaller pieces to help finance the very difficult excavation. The Excavation story is here.

A turn up for the books tonight; Thea has sat on B’s knee for the first time since Dino died. Progress!

Otherwise, she is in full winter mode, sleeping either in her tepee or on my lap.
She sees lockdown as an advantage I guess!

And finally ....
This is me all over!
Stay safe and happy WOYWW
