WOYWW 630 Flowers for Thea

Hi, just a short post this week to get back in the rhythm. Thea died last Tuesday so we’re heartbroken. It’s so stupid. The vets were treating her for kidney problems but she was so ill on Tuesday they did a full abdominal x ray. She had cancer so there was nothing to be done.
I wrote a short poem for her. Follow this link if you wish to see it.

I haven’t done much crafting this week. Jan wanted some flowers for a couple of projects local to her so I’m sending daffodils to Wales. I like that idea.

I particularly like the violas so I shall make some of them into a wreath for Thea. We pick up her ashes today.

We went to pick up some free muck for the garden this week, from a couple with alpacas.
The alpacas were cute to see. If you zoom in on the white one, her fur looks almost knitted where she’s been sheared.
This rose is lovely. Our friend and neighbour, Liz, bought it round for Thea.

The Lyminge art exhibition has gone ahead and my scarecrow, along with some paintings I did, are now on display in my front window/garden: There are supposed to be balloons to highlight exhibitor sites but they keep going down.

Frieda Kahlo (watercolour)

A pastel of Istanbul and an acrylic of a Spanish fisherman
And my Anglo Saxon scarecrow, with an axe by my husband

And finally…

Happy WOYWW and keep crafting

WOYWW 628 Anglo Saxon Scarecrow

Hi, back this week for our blog hop around the desks, courtesy of Julia at the Stamping Ground. Click on the WOYWW 12 to the right of this post to find out more.
I haven’t done much crafting this week as Thea is still ill, but:
May I present my Anglo-Saxon scarecrow?
He now has a magnificent Saxon war axe, courtesy of B. We were wondering how realistic it should be but when B offered to parade it in front of the police station to see if he got arrested, we decided to keep it obviously unrealistic.

He has a raven insignia, for Odin, but his missus has sewn on a cross, just to be sure.

He will be taken to our front garden this weekend to be displayed as part of the Lyminge Anglo Saxon festival. I’m not sure how much of that will go ahead now, with this week’s sensible extension of lockdown, but he’ll be there.

I also had a lovely surprise on Thursday, just as I was getting ready for the eclipse. The post came with this birthday present from Jan, crafted by our own Diana Taylor. Isn’t it wonderful!

The weather has been lovely down here. This is from our walk on Sunday, past St Ethelburga’s well.

Thea is still unwell. We’re waiting for more test results from the vet. She has only consented to eat these past couple of days while sitting on my shoulder.
She even dropped bits of cat food down the back of my neck before I learned to put a napkin there.

and finally..

Take care and keep on crafting!

WOYWW 627 Cats, hats and the solar eclipse

Hi all, here we are again for our weekly desk peek, courtesy of Julia at the Stamping Ground. Click on the WOYWW 12 to the right of this page to find out more.
I haven’t done a lot of crafting this week, partly because Thea is ill (more detail on that below.)
I swapped the ear wires on some earrings I got for my birthday on Saturday.

I also finished the hat I crocheted. The wired brim was a challenge. I used a craft wire, maybe millinery wire is easier.
I ended up using Sugru to secure the ends of the wire. I think you can buy special joiners via millinery suppliers but only in bulk. Thanks Julia, you mentioned Sugru a long time ago. It worked a treat.

Here’s the hat.

This shows the Sugru before it was covered.

The brim is a bit wayward but I’m happy overall. The pattern is on YouTube.

I’ve also had a couple of lovely ATCs:

2 from Lyn Spyder’s corner in a cute packet2

And this one, which had no name.
Is it from you Lisa- Jane?

I also had this great birthday card from Jan

By the way, has everyone in the Northern Hemisphere got their eclipse glasses for tomorrow? It’s only a partial one here, unlike the 1999 one, which I remember watching with colleagues in Regents Park. There are timings for tomorrow in this link.

So Thea. She likes to lick my ear. She has a rough tongue but she means well!

They think it’s a urinary infection. Fingers crossed it’s not kidneys. She is feeling a bit better after all the antibiotics and other medicine. One is a capsule I have to break open and split into 8. That’s right, 8. A craft knife and lots of little wraps of tinfoil. Looks like a drug factory!

We’ve been doing a lot of running to and from the vets and to and from the cat food shop to get exactly the right variety of fish soup that she’d eat when feeling off colour. Of course, once I've found them she goes off them and wants the gourmet sachets of cat food instead. WE don't iond.
 She is looking brighter now.

And finally...
How could I resist?

And for all of us who have to adapt:

Take care and keep crafting!

WOYWW 626 Hats and ravens

Hi all,
Back for our weekly deskers’ peak courtesy of Julia at the Stamping Ground. Click on the WOYWW 12 at the top of this page to find out more.
Julia was closest in suggesting dreadlocks last week.
This is my Anglo-Saxon scarecrow for our village festival. We’ve had a lot of local archeology, hence the theme.

I’m making some raven insignia for his cloak and B is making him a Saxon war axe (out of a broom handle and some plasticard).

This week I found a hat pattern
It starts like this, I add a crown and a brim (with some milliners wire) and....

....

VoilĂ ! (I hope ;-) )

Thea worried us by staying out all night. She doesn't seem very well. The next evening we brought her in; she tried to make herself as small as possible at first.

However, I kept her on my knee and soon....

And finally...

Stay safe and keep crafting
