WOYWW 695 Cat shawl pin and the never-ending Tizzy

Hi all,
Brr hasn’t it gone cold all of a sudden!
I’m enjoying wearing my cat stitch shawl I made last year with my cat shawl pin

I’ll be glad when Tizzy is finished. I go round and round the border, to widen the front. When I’ve done that, I’ve four 6” squares to add to the bottom of the back and a second pocket to do.  I’m having to go slowly now as my elbow tendons ache if I do too much.

On Sunday we went to the Apple Fair at Perry Court Farm. There were steam engines and donkeys (also enjoying apples)…
…and lots of different varieties of apple.

We bought Worcester Pairmains, Egremont russets and some lovely late apricots. I had a gorgeous damson ice cream.
It’s on again this weekend if you’re in Kent.
We also went to another local fair, in Hythe, to buy honey from my friend, Chris Farrell, who’s a beekeeper.

We have autumn covid boosters on Sunday. Enjoy the crop this weekend if you’re going!

Gracie and Bella send purrs to you all. They’ve been ‘helping me’ with Tizzy.

And finally…

I’m off now to The Stamping Ground to have a look at your blogs and to comment.
Take care and happy WOYWW!

WOYWW 694 One step forward…

Hi, back again for our crafty blog hop.
I’m definitely going one step forward, two steps back this week, with my Tizzy cardi. I’ve sewn the top of the shoulder and undone it three times before arriving at this shape.

In the meantime, I’ve unpicked other seams, including the sleeve seam (totally unnecessarily) but I’ve maybe now found a way forward.
Here are the pieces I’ve yet to sew together.

On Monday we went up to our village church for the state funeral on a big screen. We didn’t realise the vicar was driving it all via her mobile signal, including a surreal bit of buffering in the 2 minute silence (I think we did about 5 minutes!). Hymns were a bit like the game in BBC R4’s ‘Sorry I haven’t a clue’ where the song fades out and you have to continue, hoping to be in time when the music comes back.
Still, it made it more real; I’ve never been to a funeral where everything went well, and it felt more like taking part than just watching on tv at home.

Here’s a picture of Bella and Gracie looking like butter wouldn’t melt…Bella has brought three mice in this week alone. Brian’s getting very good at catching them and taking them outside again.
And finally…

Take care and happy WOYWW!

WOYWW 693 Tizzy adjustments

Hi all, I’m back for our weekly crafting bloghop care of Julia at the Stamping Ground
I think  many people have been affected this week by the death of the Queen.
I’m not a royalist; it’s sad though that sometimes you only hear the best stories about someone after they’re gone. This is my favourite:
Anyway to my crafting:

I’ve been making adjustments to my Tizzy cardigan this week. The limitation of the Tizzy pattern is that it makes only squares or triangles. This has made the front shoulder too narrow and I’ll have to add a triangle between the front and back (where the yellow pin is) to make it fit better. Something like this:

The sleeve I’ve done, a 20 inch square, works ok and I’m busy with the second one. I’m not yet sure how my altered shoulder will look - I may have to make a big collar to hide it.

On Saturday we went to a private viewing at the Horsebridge Gallery in Whitstable, of beautiful art by Catherine Robinson, my friend and former T’ai Chi teacher.
The collage below is my favourite:

It’s as if you’re lying on your back in the sea, looking up at the night sky and surrounded by perilous seas and boats.

Gracie and Bella are mostly practicing hibernation for the winter but I caught this pretty snap of Gracie:
And of Bella sleeping

And finally…

I have a scan this morning so won’t be commenting till later

WOYWW 692 Tizzy pockets & Bara brith

Hi all,
Here’s my ‘desk’ for this week:
It’s my Welsh flag knitting bag kindly made for me by LLJ. It’s square so it sits very nicely on the arm of my chair.

Sorry Neet, I’m still crocheting Tizzy. It’s 4-ply so slow.
Bella and Gracie have been helping me make the sleeves:

This is one of the pockets. I felt like adding some whimsical detail…

I’m feeling less wobbly so I also made some bara brith. I’ve changed the way I lay out the almonds so it’s easier to cut. It still has to have loads of them on top though ( plus ground and flaked almonds in the mix)!
I still use Felicity Cloake’s Barmbrack recipe as a base but use mixed fruit which includes mixed peel, only 100g sugar, replacing the cherries with chopped dried apricots, 50g of the flour with ground almonds, and 1 Tbs kefir.

Apart from that, I’m enjoying the tennis (US open on Amazon prime) even though all the Brits and Rafa are now out.

And finally…

A message for our politicians:

Take care and happy crafting!
