WOYWW 617 Here comes the sun

Hi all, I’m back for another Wednesday blog hop courtesy of Julia at The Stamping Ground. Join in with us!
Here’s my desk this week. A big box of origami paper is on the left.

Having added brads and shiny gold ribbon the boxes in blue with green twist boxes started to look rather tatty compared with the ones made of washi paper.

I’m thinking of re-doing them. The twist boxes that sit on top are a bit awkward to do in washi paper, but I’m persevering.

Another little annoyance is this brand of glue rollers. The tape spews out and tangles horribly.

I’ve not done much crafting this week. I’m in the middle of a creative writing project that is progressing well at the moment, and the weather has been lovely.
It is apparently going to be awful for Easter so best to make the most of it this week.

We went out for a walk along the Warren to the East of Folkestone.

Also, I actually mowed the lawn yesterday. It may not seem much, but with illness and broken bones: ankle, (twice) left arm & shoulder, numerous ribs etc over the last 5 years, I’ve not done it for a long time. (I’m on osteoporosis treatment now).
Of course himself thinks he has to go over it to tidy up the “bits I missed” (grrrr) but I’m pleased anyway.
We’re cheering on our apricot trees at present. The flowers rarely survive into fruit but we feel hopeful when we see the blossoms.

Thea sends a MRRP to all your cats. She’s  a little cat with a big purr (and a big attitude😼).
It’s lovely to see her going out to the garden again and it’s a joy when she runs down the garden to me.

No idea what she’s watching!

And
finally...,
I found this one I mentioned earlier

Take care all and keep crafting!

WOYWW 616 Little boxes, little boxes

Hi all, back again for a Wednesday bloghop care of Julia at The Stamping Ground
I’ve something reminiscent of one of your normal desks this week. I’ve been making my origami Chinese thread book. I followed instructions from https://www.paperkawaii.com/origami-chinese-thread-book-video-tutorial/

All the boxes except the pink one have two levels of opening.
I’m going to try to use brads to keep them closed. I’ve yet to make the cover. I’m torn between the lilac patterned origami paper and plain light green paper for the lining. What do you think?

I’ve also crocheted another headband. I’m getting to like this Sheepjes Whirl yarn. It’s from a fine blanket I tried last year and gave up on. Maybe it was just the pattern. I’m now glad one yarn cake never sold.

Since it was World poetry day this week, here’s my favourite poem, the Seven of Pentacles by Marge Piercy.

Here’s Thea being super-cute as ever. She goes out a bit (to sharpen her claws? 😏) but still sleeps for most of the day. She’s 10 now after all!
The  weather has been good enough for walks this week. I try to get back before junior school kicks out.
The brook through our village, the Nailbourne, is looking low at present.
In 2000, where it is culverted, the top end of it flooded so that half our main street was under a foot of water. Hard to believe at the moment.

And finally....
1. For Sarah...
2. For all of us despairing of ever getting a holiday!

Take care, stay safe and keep on crafting!

WOYWW 615 The Glue Question

Hi all, back again for another weekly peek at what we’re up to courtesy of Julia at The Stamping Ground. I see in comments people apologising for “being late”. I don’t know what everyone else thinks, but I’m happy for people to read my blog any time.
I’m also one for a messy desk, and here’s my mask adapter box.

I like to seal the bags with πŸ’™ labels, to honour the NHS. I really must sort it out as our vaccination centre is re-opening.
I made myself a headband as I’m fed up of my hair. I have an appointment to get it cut, but not till 19th April.

I can wear that in public, unlike my dragon and daffodil headband that I wear for rugby matches.

It must be working anyway as Wales are in with a good chance of winning the Grand Slam πŸ˜€

The glue question
However, at the moment, I’m rather taken by an origami project. I know, paper!🀣
I’ve dabbled in origami for a while, but as single objects, not needing glue.  I saw online a Chinese thread box. From the outside it looks like a booklet, and when you open it, it has lots of little storage boxes. You can see the pink ones opening here, but there’s another layer below them.

Now for that I need glue. The glue rollers on Amazon all seem to have mixed reviews. Are there any that work well in your expert opinions, please ?
I’d rather not invest in a glue gun unless it’s absolutely the only thing that works. Many thanks for any advice you can offer.

Thea
Madame Thea made me laugh this week. She seems to like her fleece jumper to sleep on, but B inadvertently stuck his foot out of the covers, and woke to find her scratching the sole of his foot. He was not amused.
Here she looks as if butter wouldn’t melt, as usual.
Spring

Spring is definitely here. These grape hyacinths pop up on our front path every year. Tough as nuts but they make me smile.

And finally....
Working on railway construction projects, particularly HS1, my assistant  used to ask me if I needed anything before she left. My standard response on a Friday night was “A time machine, a gin and tonic and an AK47” none of which I could have, as I sat (often till 10pm) with a phone in each hand, trying to organise the weekend works.
People who thought they could go ahead without having planned their works were a particular bugbear.
There was a BBC programme when we were building the Channel tunnel that has my voice coming over the intercom from the Control Centre, saying
“I don’t care if you’re making a film. You cannot film in the running (rail) tunnel now as we have PLANNED train tests. So come out of the running tunnel NOW and shut the door behind you.”
I would have loved to have this on my wall:

Happy St Patrick’s day

And here’s one for NASA

Stay safe all, and keep crafting!

WOYWW 614 Nostepinne and shopping πŸ›’

Hi all, back again for our weekly blog hop courtesy of Julia at The Stamping Ground
The weeks seem to go faster and faster. It must be my age!

For International Women’s day.
1 this is a great video.
2. I love this photo

Mask adapters
I was just set up to do a nice new round of mask adapters when I heard out vaccination centre is temporarily closed. Computer update? Supply problems? Who knows.

Nostepinne and shawl

Anyway, my new nostepinne has arrived, handmade by Les Smith. Now we’ll have no rude comments from the back there. It fits beautifully in my hand. (I said, NO SNIGGERING, LLJ!). Very good quality, very reasonably priced.
I also received a very nice cat shawl pin

I’m still crocheting my cat stitch shawl. It’s growing!

Going out / Shopping
The big event for me this week is that I have been INTO A SHOP! This might not seem remarkable, but I’m still shielding.
I had to go for a hospital appointment at our big, scary hospital on Thursday. Even though they double spaced the chairs, the waiting room at the eye clinic looked rammed to me. The nurse must have seen I was panicking. So, with extreme kindness, they let me sit in an unused side room while I waited.
Anyway, on Sunday, B said he was going to check out a new food shop in Folkestone and when we got there it looked quite empty compared with that hospital waiting room so I went in!! It was lovely just to browse shelves and wander around. It must be a year since I last went into a shop. Shopping on the internet is just not the same. I can’t say I’m ready to go into a supermarket, but it’s progress.

Thea
Thea had taken to tail chasing at eye watering speed around the bed when we’re trying to sleep. Last night I had a brainwave and put an old fleece sweater at the foot of the bed. She couldn’t resist it and is still sleeping happily on it.
Now I intended to put a cartoon in here but I forgot to save it. (And of course Facebook loses such things immediately).
Just imagine a cat at the psychiatrist’s lying on a couch complaining:
“Every time I get a nice place to snooze, some human comes up and takes a photo. It’s such a breach of my privacy.”......

And finally....

I’m still having problems commenting on blogger sometimes, despite Jan’s fix (in last week’s comments) but I will try to comment on your lovely blogs.

Take care, keep crafting and have a lovely week

WOYWW 613 Mask central

Hi again, here’s our weekly blog hop courtesy of Julia at The stamping-ground
I’ve been making mask adapters again this week. It’s nice using all these new buttons, like Smarties!

I’ve found a solution to losing my needle - magnets glued into the lid of my button box. It works as long as I remember to put it back!

Thea says mrrp to all your cats. She’s been sleeping most of the day and then tears round doing a Brands Hatch chasing her tail on the bed at bedtime 😏
We’ve been able to get out for walks this week. It always makes me smile to see our village alpacas.

On a fine day, the coast is a good walk. Below is a Martello tower, part of the coastal defences against Napoleon et al.

I look forward to seeing your blogs, and to comment as much as I can - does anyone else get chucked out by blogger when you try to comment? Sometimes it takes me 3 or 4 goes, and that’s with blogger not Wordpress.

And finally......

Stay safe and keep crafting!
