WOYWW #588: Cats by the seaside

Hi all, I hope you’re having a good week as we return to the Stamping ground for another “What’s on your Workdesk Wednesday” kindly hosted by our Julia.

Here’s my workspace, mainly yarn at present. I'm still working on my Persian tiles. with all the colour changes,  I have to tie the ends in as I go or I'd go mad if I had to do it all at the end.

I’ve spent much of this week cat nursing. Dino has a bad case of the sniffles. When his nose is blocked he won’t eat so I’ve been giving him water through a pipette which he really doesn’t like. He’s a bit better now.

Thea has become quite possessive though we’re careful not to leave her out. This is a photo of her. She doesn't normally sleep so stretched out. I think she's saying, this is my lap!

It’s been a bit of scary week with visits to the hospital eye clinic. I had my second cataract fixed at the end of July. When I went to my checkup they said I had a retinal tear and rushed me off for laser surgery. Another checkup last week and I was scared of more laser surgery. No, they said I had to go for another checkup this week to see if I need cryogenic therapy instead. They then decided I needed more laser surgery, which they did yesterday - ouch! Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 that that’s enough. My better half got me soothing eyedrops from the chemist, which have helped.

Saturday was a lovely day here, and we decided to have a seafront walk on the way to shopping. There were clouds across the Channel but it stayed fine here. The beach was very quiet, but there was a whole flock of seagulls - waiting for the day trippers to come back?

Anyway, have a good week, all. I'll try to visit more of your blogs this week. Hugs, Lynne

Hope your eye heals! Glad that your kitty is feeling better. How cool to have a seafront to walk! We've been WAY too hot to be out. Have a great week!

Sorry I'm so late in replying, been crazy day. Love the Persian tiles, that blanket is going to be beautiful. I really hope the laser treatment works, I'd have been scared too, I think - got everything crossed that it works. Your seaside shots are lovely, the weather has been beautiful here today as well.
Take care and lots of love,

It sounds as if both you and Dino are in the wars a bit at the moment, Lynne. I hope you both recover soon! Your eye problems sound awful, and pretty scary too. I've got incipient cataracts and they will have to be done sometime, but I don't think they are bad enough yet. I think my next eye test is next year and they'll give me a progress report then, I've no doubt. Lovely sea views, with not a soul in sight except the gulls! Beautiful.

I'm very interested in following your progress on the Persian tiles project, because I think I'm pretty much settled on that one for the throw for our new sofa when it comes. It's a beautiful design. I shall be going for bold bright colours to co-ordinate with our room.

Happy WOYWW,

Have you had your cat's teeth checked as that could be what's causing the blocked nose. If cats and dogs have a tooth problem it can cause the problem you've mentioned. Anything to do with eyes is pretty scary so hope you don't need any more work doing on them. Wishing you a very happy woyww, Angela Xnow 13X

Hi Shoshi, thanks for your comments. Most cataract ops are straightforward. I was very short sighted - that meant the shape of my eyes made it more of a risk. My left eye op in March was problem free so my current woes are atypical. I always donate to the Himalayan cataract project before I go to my appointments to remind me that they cure blindness for 1000s of people.

Thanks for the visit Lynne, adorable cats. Pretty crochet too. I've not played with yarn for quite awhile. Your walk by the water looks so inviting. I always think water is soothing to the soul. Hope you have all your eye issues under control. The past few months, my eyes are dry and I think allergic to something, that makes them tear up. Getting old is not good ! Enjoy a good weekend.

I didn't know that being short sighted made a difference - you live and learn! I am only sightly short sighted so it shouldn't be a problem. Anyway I'm glad the first one was OK for you. What a fantastic thing to do, to support that charity! Always good to remember there are millions of people in the world a whole lot worse off than we are, and not to take our NHS for granted!!

Thank you for your return visit to my blog, and I'm glad you enjoyed my post, and that you liked my Romanian outfit - it's a work of art, isn't it. I adore Eastern European and Russian textiles. So glad also that you've gone for the peacock shawl! You must let me know how you get on with it. I have knitted and crocheted all my life. Mum taught me to knit and my grandmother taught me to crochet. Such useful skills! I had not heard of almond granita before so I looked it up. It looks interesting, although I don't use any added sugar these days!! I make my almond milk by soaking whole almonds (with the brown skins still on them, i.e. not blanched) overnight, and then blending them with water in my high speed blender. I then squeeze it through a nut bag to separate the milk and the pulp which goes in a box in the fridge ready to use for other things. I've got a few recipes that use it, including the hummus which is basically just the pulp, tahini, lemon juice, garlic and cumin (I think that's everything!) - moistened with a little water. We have it all the time. It's oil free and very nutritious, and tasty too. I also make soya milk, and because that's more complicated, involving cooking the beans, I bought myself a machine to do this. It grinds and cooks the soaked beans and separates the pulp in a mesh container. I always squeeze this through the nut bag to get more out, though. So much bought non-dairy milk contains sugar and preservatives and who knows what else rubbish so it's best to make your own!

How is Dino today? I hope he is getting better! Our kitties are rather beautiful, aren't they! They are silver tabby cross - their father was a pedigree and their mother a brown and white tabby. I think they look prettier with the white bibs and paws. They are such little characters!

Have a great week.

Hi Lynne, happy belated WOYWW. Oh dear, your eye surgery and problems sound very painful. I hope everything turns out OK for you. I wish we loved near the sea front - a brisk walk to blow away the cobwebs is a great way to start the day. Have a lovely week, take care Heather xx #14

Hello Lynne! I looked up Eliot Pattison’s inspector Shan series. He is quite a prolific author! I never heard of him but I will check and see if I can find some in my library. I wonder if they have the audiobook version? I like books but I also enjoy audiobooks. I absolutely love the Persian tiles. It's so much more fun to look at then the square tiles we are familiar with. Do share a photo when you complete it. The beach looks wonderful. This is the first summer I did not spend any time at the beach. I miss it dearly. Have a wonderful week and thanks for stopping by.

Thanks Shoshi. I love bright textiles. If I see a great pattern I’ll get it for later, though the peacock shawl looks hard to do. My mother was right handed, my father and I left-handed. My mother taught my father to knit and he taught me. My grandmother was a great one for crochet; I sort of picked that up slowly.
Dino now insists on going out and is eating better so I hope he’s recovering. Your tabbies are beautiful too. Take care
