what's on your workdesk Wednesday #587 Retiring: crochet and cat nursing

Hi all,
I hope it’s ok if I post on your wonderful WOYWW group again? I have now retired and have more time, and I miss you all!
I hope you’ve kept as well as possible during the pandemic. I’m classed as extremely vulnerable, as some of you no doubt are, so have mainly stayed at home for the past 6 months.

I now have a workstation; but vertical rather than desk like. It’s a set of shelves next to my chair. My wool (apart from that stashed elsewhere😏) is in boxes.
I’m currently attempting Janie Crow’s Persian tiles blanket, crocheted in octagons with granny squares between. I’ve had lots of fun not following the pattern re colours and have made up my own. Not sure how to put them together though. Any suggestions? I'm wondering about going from dark in the corners to light in the middle.
I think I need 25 for the size I want, so a few to do yet.

My better half has made me bobbins from wine corks and dowels to make the colour changes manageable. I’m not saying we drink a lot of wine but....

I’m also cat nursing at present as Dino has come down with a cold and is feeling miserable. The vet has checked him and prescribed antibiotics. These at least are easily administered in his favourite fish soup. Thea is outside somewhere - we are privileged to see her between meals when the weather is good.

Anyway hope you all have a great week!
Lots of love
Lynne xxx

  1. Yay, how wonderful to see you on the desks again!! It made me smile to see your workdesk as I can imagine exactly where you are sitting to access it! The Persian tiles are absolutely gorgeous and I like your idea of dark corners to light middle - Brian's bobbins are brilliant too, he's a man of many talents! Hope Dino gets better very soon xx

PS I think there's something wrong with your link at no 20, it takes me back to my blogger dashboard page. Do you want to check, otherwise you may not get many visitors xx

ps thanks for the Covid reassurance - hope it wakes people up and they start obeying rules and regs. It needs someone to visit them in their homes and tell them what they should be doing.

    1. Thanks, Neet, I feel so foolish - I’m not sure what has changed. Yes, it is good to be able to comfort Dino.

  5. Hi Lynne, lovely colours in your blanket, and such unusual shapess. No help n the joining I'm afraid, not my craft, lol. LLJ or Twiglet will probably be your best people for help, or Glitter&Glue(Margaret). Yes, another vulnerable person here, not been out for months myself. Stay safe, Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #14.

  7. Lovely to see you here - hopefully things will be better soon, we are all getting a bit fed up of being at home I think. I love your blanket tiles (can't help though), so pretty and gorgeous colours. Happy Wednesday, stay safe, stay well, Cindy #15

  8. How pretty your blanket will be ~ Your kitty has the same coloring as my Mojo. Nice that he smiled for the camera, true cat style. I donate my corks hoping some creative soul can use them, and see you've found yet another use! ~ Enjoy

  9. We don;t care what type of desk you have as you'll see when you visit others they take many shapes including the floor. Those crochet tiles are gorgeous. I think they need a colour joining them together that will make the tiles stand out which is why I would probably go with a dark colour, even black or silver maybe. Take care and have a happy creative week, Angela x10x

  12. Lynne, your throw is going to be absolutely stunning! I adore the tile design. I have been thinking about making a throw to go over our new settee when it arrives, and this would be the sort of thing I'd like to do. Can you give me any details about the pattern? I haven't any suggestions for your layout I'm afraid.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

    1. Hi Shoshi. It’s a paid pattern by Janie Crow called Persian Tiles. You can buy the pattern on Ravelry. There are some colour ways only sold as kits but there are alternatives and lots of advice and videos on the Facebook Persian Tiles page. It’s mainly made of Stylecraft Life or Special DK but you could use any DK yarn you have. Lx

    2. Thanks Lynne - actually I found this pattern on Ravelry this morning while I was saving various inspirations for a crochet throw. It looks one of the most promising, I think. Like you, I would use my own colours, and probably make it in 4-ply because that's what I've got most of - it would come out smaller of course but that's not a problem - just make more tiles! It's certainly worth thinking about, anyway.

Thank you for visiting my blog and for your kind words about my ring. I have looked in the washing machine and all around the seal and it's not there. Over a week now since I lost it and I'm beginning to despair of ever finding it. So sad.

  13. It’s lovely to see you on WOYWW. I love the crochet project, they look fab in all the colours you’ve chosen. I’ve looked at this pattern myself a couple of times, really attracted by the tiles concept. Meanwhile, congrats on your retirement, A long and fulfilling career by the sounds of it. Enjoy your sudden lack of deadlines!

    1. Thanks Julia, that’s so kind. I was a bit daunted by the pattern at first but the Facebook group is really helpful. I’ve learned a lot though doing the tiles.Lockdown was good practice for retiring - one good thing to be said about it! Take care Lx
