I’d been moping over the birthday photos of my late mother, which Facebook so helpfully displayed. We decided to go out to lunch instead.
A quick call and we are on our way through Lyminge forest to the Duck at Pett Bottom
Through the forest, and out into the valley through the glorious hamlet of Lynsore Bottom, all Tudor houses, but a place I could never live, though for a while I did have riding lessons there.
The forest is a Site of Special Scientific interest, lots of rare species.
As the valley widened out, we were surprised to see a vineyard growing now on its slopes, although we know the big champagne producers like Taittinger have planted here. We’re on the same chalky terroir as Champagne and the move north is to preserve the character of the wine in the face of global warming.
And so to Pett Bottom and the pub which belonged to Ian Fleming’s aunt Joan. It has a blue plaque to him now.
Inside has been done up and is no longer full of James Bond memorabilia. The shelves are now full of cookery books and odd preserves like bay leaf vinegar.
When I asked what it was for, the waiter told me it was for curry; the chef-owner is South African and loves his curries. Not quite sure about vinegar in curries but never mind.
The food was lovely, copious and tasty. I had a roast loin of pork with apricot purée. (Meat with jam as the French would say).
B and I reminisced, in part about that terrible restaurant south of Caderache, near Aix, where we walked in, made terrified excuses and left. The bar’s inhabitants threw off the menace of a Scandi fascist motorbike club, and we couldn’t get out fast enough. The Duck had a much more welcoming atmosphere.
And so back through Lynsore Bottom and the forest and home to the cats.
Health
B is to have cataract ops, and the only place that can do them quickly is Benenden Hospital, in W Kent. We thought his covid test was Saturday, so we drove all the way there, but it was Sunday and we had to go back, this time in pouring rain. His op was due to be today, but they had an issue with his test (It "leaked"???) and so we'll be back again on Sunday for another test, and for an op at 8:00 next Wednesday. I know that at least he's having the op, when others wait endlessly, but our car will know the way there by itself soon.
Dino is improving slowly but I still have to give him antibiotics by syringe, grrrrr. Thea and I are ok. The cats are both in winter hibernation mode now, but say miaow to other cats on this blog!

Hi Lynne. Hope you have more success with testing this week! Sounds a nightmare. Trust the op next Wednesday will be just great - and totally successful. I couldn't believe the difference in my mum after her op! Amazing. Colour came back into her life. Your scarf is just beautiful - well done yoiu. The walk through the woods sounds great, and what a glorious autumn day.
Take care. God bless.

The scarf is turning out beautifully, the recipient will love it! I’m so sorry to hear that the op has been cancelled, how frustrating, as you say the car will be able to drive there automatically before too long. Great stories from your trip out to the pub, I still hoot when I think about you in Lynnsor Bottom!!!
Hugs LLJ 11 xxxx
Fingers crossed for the test and the Op - hopefully it'll all work itself out soon for you...
My cat Marley says Miaow back....

Hi Lynne, I hope all goes well with the test this time round, and the op goes ahead. Lovely photos from your trip. Stay safe, have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #3 X
I hope the ops go well ~ Your kitties are precious and bring much love your way I can tell. The pub stop sounds like fun and the food sounds yummy. Blessings on your week! Love, Karen#22
Your scarf looks wonderful as do all those lovely photos. So sorry you had to drive out twice - and now three times for a test :( I hope all goes well with the op. Have a great week. Soojay #26
Wow, Lynne, your vineyard scarf is amazing! I was wondering how you were getting on with the Persian Tiles - as soon as I finish my final Tiny Carpet I am keen to get going on my version of this throw for our new furniture, due to arrive very soon. Lots of other lovely photos on your post this week, too - what a beautiful place. Sorry to hear poor old Dino is still not himself but hope the antibiotics will soon kick in and he'll be OK again. We know all about hibernation mode here too! Our 2 send meows back to yours, and a cuddle from Auntie Shoshi too!
Thank you for your visit. The Covid business certainly isn't helping get my various appointments sorted but I'm really fed up with the Exeter hospital - I've got lost in their system twice now! I had colon cancer in 2015 and have a permanent ileostomy, and a recurrent parastomal hernia that has been repaired twice. The Exeter guy is a specialist in complex repairs and reconstructions - I just wish he was based at Torbay Hospital which is a ton better than Exeter! The bladder problems are a result of nerve damage caused by my chemo. The cataracts are just Anno Domini I'm afraid - Dad had them too - who knows when they will get sorted out, in the current chaotic climate. M.E. is ongoing too - nowt to be done about that except sensible management (and I'm not always sensible lol!) - but I'm better since adopting whole-food plant-based living. Still, even with all that lot going on, things could be a darned sight worse - I'm not in constant pain like some, and I'm still here, and still smiling!
Happy WOYWW,

The scarf is looking great, someone is going to love it. The photographs of your walk are lovely. Hope everything goes well for the test and the op. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x18x
WOW the scarf looks amazing.
Happy WOYWW #BJ
Beautiful photographs, what a lovely part of the world. The following the 'lion' story really amused me!
Good luck for the op, I had had mine done a couple of years ago, doing all the drops afterwards is a palaver (probably your job) but necessary!
Take care and stay safe

The scarf is fab already! desker Shoshi did one with complications and embellishments a couple years ago, indeed she might tell you herself...worth looking at her blog to see it if you’ve got browsing time. I’m fascinated to know why you couldn’t live in a Tudor village. Please tell! Lyminge looks beautiful, I believe there is no nicer route than one that ends in a pub!
Beautiful photographs of the forest and landscape. What a lovely day you must have had. Wishing you a great week Angela #26
Julia it’s because of the name! If you break it down, it says:
Lyn Sore Bottom Lol
You know, I'm never going to forget about your 'Sore Bottom! after reading the comments! Lovely pictures, we live in Hampshire so of course there's The New Forest, and near me is Longslade Bottom and Yew Tree Bottom! and a few other bottoms (Where I'm probably off for a walk if the rain stops) Happy Crafting and Happy WOYWW!
((Lyn))
Hi Shoshi, glad to hear you keep your spirits up, with all you have to suffer.
I will get back to the Persian Tiles once the vineyard scarf is done.
Your two cats are beautiful as well; our first cat was a tabby as well (though we always said she was half Northumbrian wild cat 😏). Hugs to them and to you
Lynne
Love the vinyard scarf and the fart story - in fact the whole read!
Sorry I am late visiting…. Happy WOYWW!
