WOYWW 650 Sews and woes

Hi all, back again for our weekly blog hop, care of Miss Julia. I’ve done some building of a border on my cardigan, and some sewing up.

Most of my time has been spent on computers since Bella walked on my laptop keyboard and it started spitting Ccccccs everywhere.

Seeing my manuscript disappearing in cccccccs was a bit terrifying. Lots of efforts with a local repairer but no joy so I bought a new laptop and have been setting it up.

It felt critical at the time, although I haven't lost much and at least I have the resources to sort it out.

Of course both Bella and Gracie are happy when there’s no laptop at all on my lap

And finally

Stay safe and happy crafting!

WOYWW 649 Playing with patterns

Hi all, I’ve played with the “Don’t fence me in” pattern from Stardust melodies this week. On the left is the original pattern but I prefer the more defined ones on the right.

I’ve done some joining up (thank you Miss Julia😏).

Bella has been keeping me company, wrapped in my cat shawl against the cold.
There has been a bit less fighting since I started showing them the pumpkin hat but I have to threaten to get out my orange wool now and again. 😻
We walked along the Military Canal, but it’s been quite cold. The weather people keep saying it’s mild - I guess I’m nesh.

And finally…

I I swapped this from dogs to cats…

I’m off to join in the blog hop at Miss Julia’s Stamping Ground
Stay safe and warm. Happy crafting!

WOYWW 648 Spiral taming; pumpkin hat threats

Hi all, here’s my desk this week. When the basket is full I do some more joining up. The folder is my Starlight Melodies pattern book from Polly Plum.

I’m having to do some small rectangles for the border as the full sized ones are too wide. They’re a bit boring so I go off into spiral taming mode every so often. When I’m in the middle of one it seems incredible I’ll ever wrestle it into a square shape. I’ve lots still to make.

(Bluestone accent!).

Pumpkin hat threats
I’ve been showing Bella and Gracie this picture all week. I tell them I’ll make hats like this and make them wear them if they fight

They’re behaving a bit better…sometimes 😻😻

Princes Parade
I’m afraid the work at Princes Parade has started, even before the public enquiry into stopping up the road is finished.
Work at Princes Parade. (Links to Facebook). Today and tomorrow are the last days of the enquiry. Please send positive vibes to Folkestone!
Here’s a very moving speech made at the hearing by my friend Chris Farrell

And finally…
I am so fed up of hiding from the pandemic - anti-vaxxers make my blood boil. If their point of view were followed, we’d still be fighting smallpox and polio as well.

And one for Halloween…

I’m off now to join in the blog hop courtesy of Julia at the Stamping Ground

Take care all and happy crafting!

WOYWW 647. Circles and greys

Hi,
Here’s my crafting for this week’s blog hop. I found a new pattern that starts in circles and then makes a nice square.

I’ve also experimented with a new colour called bluestone. I’m not sure it works on its own. What do you think? It might work better as accents.

I also made a wreath for my Mum and Dad’s grave. It was my Mum’s birthday on Thursday.
I wrote a poem for her, called Giant Lemon Meringues: http://lmcollis.blogspot.com/2021/10/giant-lemon-meringues.html?m=1
We used to go to the Rambler’s Retreat at Dimmingsdale between Oakamoor and Alton.
I swear their lemon meringue pies are six inches tall!

It’s been a challenging week. A friend died after a long illness. I really want to go to the funeral tomorrow. The church will be ok I think but there will be lots of kids at the wake. They promised a breezy corner but I wasn’t sleeping, worrying about it, so I’ve decided not to go.
I had my booster jab on Sunday. Not too bad, sore arm and headaches, and I’m glad to have it.
Folkestone bl**dy council has started work wrecking Princes Parade this week, even though the public enquiry isn’t finished. Thanks all for your kind messages of support. Friends spoke beautifully and courageously despite attacks from a savage QC for the council. Details are here. All the green space on the seaward side of the canal will be built on. This Enquiry is about blocking off the road.
On a brighter note, I had some long awaited happy mail from Susan Renshaw.
She clearly posted it in May from Oz so I don’t know where it’s been since then. A lovely ATC in a pocket and a postcard. I wonder if it got stuck in the Suez Canal πŸ˜€

Bella and Gracie have been fighting. I’ve tried a Pet Remedy spray on their bedding to calm them (my asthma is affected by the plug-ins) but nothing is working yet, apart from one staying upstairs and the other downstairs when possible. Any tips gratefully received. It seems worse at crossing places where they pass each other. I’ve sprayed there too.
Here are some ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ photos.

Those were our clean towels, Miss!

And finally, a seasonal gift to warm all cats’ hearts

Take care all, and happy crafting!

WOYWW 646 Rectangles and catnip

Hi all, back again for our weekly blog hop care of  Julia at The Stamping Ground

My squares are increasingly morphing into rectangles! Both fronts done;
I’m just about ready to start the back. Here you can see last week’s green in situ.

After my local wool shop said “Oh we don’t stock Stylecraft cotton & bamboo now, it’s a summer yarn” I got a bit paranoid about supplies. Black Sheep Wools in Warrington still have stock, thank goodness. I might have bought a bit more than I need - it’s hard to estimate when you’re making it up as you go along! Still, I always say that curating my yarn stash is a separate hobby from using it!

As angelic as our cats look, they’ve been scratching the furniture. I know, they look like butter wouldn’t melt.

However, they’ve been scratching so I bought some scratching boards. Some have catnip added so I bought some to make the boards more attractive and left the sealed bag on the table.
We came back to find the bag chewed open, and catnip all over the floor.
Gracie did an unconvincing job of pretending it was nothing to do with her.

They are using the scratching boards and damaging less elsewhere though.

Thanks to all for your supportive sentiments regarding Princes Parade. The inquiry started yesterday so fingers crossed. Here’s a picture so you can see the area around the Royal Military Canal. Why do some greedy b@stards see somewhere beautiful and can only think how many houses they can build on it? 🀬🀬

I’m going for my covid booster jab on Sunday. Hope you all get yours soon.

And finally….

Take care and happy crafting!

WOYWW 645 Squares and cats

Hi again, here’s my contribution to our weekly blog hop. I’ve done enough squares for the other side of the front of my cardi now, and am starting the back.

I’ve introduced some pale green squares as well. I’m not sure whether they go with the rest. What do you think?

My nostepinne gets lots of use with this yarn. I like to have small balls when I’m changing colours. Here’s Bella supervising.

The autumn rain seems to have stopped for now and I had a good walk along the seafront to Hythe. I went along Princes Parade and tried just to enjoy it, watching the fishing competition. Our stupid council is closing access to  it soon to build houses on the road with exclusive beach frontage  πŸ€¬. Numerous appeals and judicial reviews have failed. There’s another public inquiry next week. If it fails we’ll no longer have access along this road. By the way, if they build that close to the beach, they’ll all get free pebbledashing in the winter.

The end of my walk was along the Royal Military Canal.
The cats are seriously into winter hibernation mode now.

And finally….
My respiratory consultant couldn’t give any predictions other than saying I should be very cautious about anything indoors so crazy cat woman is my destiny, Julia!

Still, I can exercise outside. A good job we’ve no bears πŸ˜€

Happy crafting!
