WOYWW 660 Slipover progress, earrings and diamonds

Hi all,
This week I’ve made progress with the blue slipover, have adapted some earrings and conducted an experiment for my novel.

The slipover grows.

I see adverts on Facebook now for earrings you can swap over on sleepers so I’m ahead of a trend for once! This week I took the ear wires off these Blue John earrings my mother bought for me, and added jump rings so they will slip over my sleepers.
🥳🎺🎺🎺

I have also finished the first draft of my novel, yay! There’s much editing still to do but it’s a milestone. 🎺🎺🎺
One thing I wanted to check was how many 1 carat diamonds will fit into a velvet bag in a 3” square silver box. You may think such an experiment is a waste of time, but it was important for me to be accurate.
I tried emailing diamonds merchants but got no reply. They probably thought I was a nutter. 🤪
So (and no, my dear husband, I did not spend our pension on 500 carats of diamonds 🤣). It seems wedding diamonds are a thing, strewn over the top table, so you can buy acrylic ones that are the right size.

It seems you can fit 450 1 carat diamonds into my box, plus the one in the lining that gives the game away.
There are lots of diamond value calculators online.
Obviously I’m making assumptions about the cut, clarity and colour of my gems. They don’t have the proper certification so they’re only worth about £2,000 - £4,000 each. Still, a cool £1.8 million is not to be sniffed at. They’re a key point of the story so I wanted to get it right.

The cats have been with us for six months this week! Incredible, they’ve really got us well trained now.

And finally..,

Take care and happy crafting
Hugs

  2. Of course authenticity is the key to a good story. Not that it bothers me when I am reading a novel but some people delight in showing the writer was wrong. Congratulations on your first novel. I look forward to buying a copy.
Love the ear rings, what a fab idea.
Take care and keep safe and well

  3. Congrats on finishing your novel! Wow! Is it going to be on Amazon to buy? We can all appreciate attention to detail, though I don't think anyone will check your claim on the diamonds! And now I'm intrigued! The kitties look so cute - I thought it was the same one, but now I see their patterns are different. Take care Lynne xx zsuzsa #17

  10. Quite fitting that you are in diamond league this week then - LOL. Your story reminds me of getting an engagement ring in the States from a town specialising in diamonds called Rockville no less. You picked the diamond first then the ring it would be set in. Needless to say that engagement didn't last but I still have the rings - he let me have the wedding one which matched too. Gosh it is funny the memories sparked by people's desks this week. 11. Good to know that you are taking your research seriously for the novel Lynne. The diamonds certainly look shiny enough lol. The slipover is coming along nicely. Have Bella and Gracie got you well enough trained in 6 months do you think? Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #5

  15. Impressive research Lynne….is your dining table now strewn with diamonds for every meal? I love the Blue John earrings, glad that you can now wear them, they would definitely be a frequent wear for me. My Mum has given me quite a lot of jewellery over the years, but never earrings. She didn’t have pierced ears and so I assume that she never really considered them! Kind of you to suggest moisturising for her poor skin, she has prescription moisture creams to attempt to strengthen her skin but as she declines it’s a bit of a losing battle. She eats just about enough to sustain her, so her skin and nails don’t get any nourishment. Her lovely carers always seek me out when I’m there to tell me that they’d been as careful as they can be and that they don’t bruise or hurt her deliberately, it’s an added pressure for them so hope the nighties will help for them as well as Mum. Hope the editing is painless, really look forward to being one of your readers!
