Hi all, As I’m joining in with our blog circle care of Sarah’s craftshed, I’m sending healing hugs to those of you who are unwell, especially to our Neet.
My art class desk isn’t very interesting at the drawing stage.
Our tutor, Claire, shared some techniques for using soft pastels with watercolour.
We’ll see more techniques at art class this week.
Our tutor, Claire, shared some techniques for using soft pastels with watercolour.

This is my desk at home, testing colours and trying pastels for the culvert painting
The pastel over watercolour for the water didn’t work well for me, but I tried using clingfilm over wet paint and I think that may work better.
I managed to do a few bits of hand sewing in the last few days, taking up B’s trousers, the sleeves of a jacket, and putting a patch pocket on this jacket. It was sold with its trousers as pajamas but it’s too pretty for that. The trousers were far too small so I chopped off part of a leg to make a pocket. I like the lime green contrasting cuff. The back of my waistcoat is progressing; I don’t always get Bella’s supervision since we’ve had dry weather, there are such interesting things in the garden. (We’ve only had 2 dead mice so far). She sends you all purrs though, and is happy to sleep under my crochet when she’s worn out from patrolling the garden.
Sunday was free so we went on a cruise down the Thames and back with them, and had a late lunch before they had to catch the Eurostar home.
It was great to see them, and fortunate that the company where Pierre works decided to have a trip here. We’ve tried to coordinate before for a trip including the HP Studio but you have to book so far in advance it’s been difficult.
And finally…I’ll be round after class. My turn to bring cake this time, what’s your favourite? Mine’s the apricot and almond bara brith that I attributed to Granny Boswell in my novel, A Sense for Silver. Here’s the recipe. The only thing I’d change is to put the apricot glaze on it when it comes out of the oven.
Happy WOYWW

Dear Lynne, a fulsome post, interesting trying pastels with water colours. Really mixed media! So lovely you were able to catch up with your French Goddaughter, and love the crotchet waistcoat with or without Bella's supervision.

Lovely post today! What a fab pic of you all on the Thames cruise, you and Bri are looking so well, and I was chuffed to see that Alexia had her welsh cross body bag in use, yay! Hope you had a wonderful time xx.
So interesting to see the different techniques you’re using in the art class, I do like a bit of mixed media. The old ladies funny made me hoot, thanks for sharing!

Good to see you're learning lots at the class. I bet you all had a great time meeting up with your goddaughter too and the weather looked okay. Thanks for the funnies too. Happy woyww, Angela x9x
I was here about an hour ago and I got as far as your Bara Brith recipe when I wondered about the pizza stone. So I went off to google that, I saw a YouTube video about it, but when I clicked on the link I noticed a free jumping horse one. So I watched that decided to take some screenshots, so I slowed down the speed and got some, then I watched a video on origami flowers, checked my emails and thought what was I supposed to do to be doing? 🤣🤣. I thought the old ladies expressions were funny, didn’t quite get the second and totally agreed with the third. Enjoy your art class. Hugs Angela #7
Great post, you look like you had fun in London. Ive never been to the HP thing , needs a group I think , more fun than on your own . Kim doesn't like her photo being taken so tend to get just the odd back view! Helen #1
Oooh thanks for sharing all the soft pastel techniques looks like a lot of fun experimenting. I only have oil pastels so maybe I need to think on getting some soft pastels which I assume are water colours sort of! What make are yours? Love the clingfilm technique too, your classes are brill. Lovely river trip, you all look so happy. Hugs Bj#10
Oh gosh what I meant about the soft pastels is that they are water soluble unlike oil pastels. Bj
Loving those pastels and watercolour swatches and techniques Lynne. I do love the cling film technique. Meow to Bella. Making quick visits while at Mum's today. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah
Lots of interesting things to see today!
