WOYWW 661 Crochet & chocolates

Hi again, back for our weekly crafty blog hop, shared via Julia at the Stamping Ground. 

Craftwise, the slipover continues to grow, slowly. 

I made some more chocolates for Brian’s birthday. This time they’re almond and apricot. 

I’ve also completed the first edit of my novel. The tutor at my creative writing class says it now needs putting away in a drawer for a couple of weeks before I look at it again. 

The cats are in their full winter coats, very cuddly. Here’s Gracie complaining how hard life is…

WOYWW 660 Slipover progress, earrings and diamonds

Hi all,

This week I’ve made progress with the blue slipover, have adapted some earrings and conducted an experiment for my novel. 

The slipover grows. 

I see adverts on Facebook now for earrings you can swap over on sleepers so I’m ahead of a trend for once! This week I took the ear wires off these Blue John earrings my mother bought for me, and added jump rings so they will slip over my sleepers.

I have also finished the first draft of my novel, yay! There’s much editing still to do but it’s a milestone. 🎺🎺🎺

One thing I wanted to check was how many 1 carat diamonds will fit into a velvet bag in a 3” square silver box. You may think such an experiment is a waste of time, but it was important for me to be accurate. 

 I tried emailing diamonds merchants but got no reply. They probably thought I was a nutter. 🤪

So (and no, my dear husband, I did not spend our pension on 500 carats of diamonds 🤣). It seems wedding diamonds are a thing, strewn over the top table, so you can buy acrylic ones that are the right size. 

It seems you can fit 450 1 carat diamonds into my box, plus the one in the lining that gives the game away. 

There are lots of diamond value calculators online. 

Obviously I’m making assumptions about the cut, clarity and colour of my gems. They don’t have the proper certification so they’re only worth about £2,000 - £4,000 each. Still, a cool £1.8 million is not to be sniffed at. They’re a key point of the story so I wanted to get it right. 

The cats have been with us for six months this week! Incredible, they’ve really got us well trained now.

WOYWW 659 Progress with blue, Crazy tea cozies

Hi, back again for our weekly blog hop courtesy of Julia at the Stamping Ground .

I’ve made some progress with Brian’s blue slipover but the pressure is off as a parcel arrived this week. “That’s my present from you” he said. 

Last week’s chocolate disappeared in 24h flat so I’ll make him some more for his birthday 🥳 

Not much other crafting but I found an utterly amazing site selling tea cosy patterns. 

It’s Tea cosy folk, made by Susan Cowper. She sells paid patterns or completed cosies. (I checked with Julia it’s ok to publicise this). It’s such an inspiration- totally bonkers. 

Here’s a mammogram cosy where the woman has squashed boobs. 

There are dozens of patterns.

I’ve bought this one, since I’m married to the self-named Fat Controller. 😏. 

I’ve barely scratched the surface, there are so many. 

Cats

The cats have been with us for six months now. Incredible! Here’s a brief moment of sharing:

And this is after Gracie told me to get up so she can jump into the warm spot. They have us well- trained!

We went for a walk in the sun yesterday to buy eggs from the other side of the village. It’s nice to buy eggs under a 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. Brian said, “I hope they’re not dragons eggs though, I want an omelette!”

WOYWW 658 Chocolate, cats and soundtracks

Hi, back again for our weekly blog hop, courtesy of Miss Julia. 

Sorry I didn’t get round many blogs last week. I’m on heavy duty codeine for my back. Thanks for your good wishes for my MRI scan. It was very noisy, like a pneumatic drill by my head, but there was a bit of fun to be had guessing how bad the sound track was going to be on the headphones. 

They must’ve thought I was really old, as they were all tracks from the ‘60s, like Glen Campbell, Lulu and Petula Clark. I was so glad it finished when ‘the Young Ones’ started playing. I was barely born when Cliff Richards was singing that!

 The MRI gave really clear images. It’s funny looking at your own spine. The consultant showed me last night and he confirmed there are no fractures, yay! It’s just a badly pulled muscle, so back to the physio. 

I’ve not done a lot of crafting. The slipover is back to its previous height. Here’s Gracie modelling it for me!

I made some more chocolates today. This time it was pistachio and chopped dried apricot. My husband loves the fruit, so I’m using it to try and come up with his ideal chocolate. I tried to make some salted caramel to drop into it, but that was less successful. I ..er.. also forgot to grease the mould but they didn’t come out too bad. 

I think he likes them…,(4th helping 😀)

Bella has been more dynamic this week. This is her on top of her cat tree. 

One of them bought a dead mouse in this week (ugh). It’s the first time. Cats will be cats. 😸

Gracie has been braver lately and is happy to come downstairs for a cuddle. It was also her who’d come in wet just before we found the mouse…

WOYWW 657 Crochet blues

Hi all, and happy new year! 

I’m back for our Wednesday blog hop. 

For once I’ve managed to remember to take a picture of Brian’s slipover in daylight. 

It’s too big and I’ll have to take it back to the rib, but I’m pleased with the colours. 

Gracie is supervising the frogging (unroving, which comes from a pun on the voice of a frog, “Ribbit”)

The buttons for my blue and white cardigan arrived from Australia as well. 😀

The cats are deep into hibernation season. Bella even decided to snuggle up next to the Bath when I was in it this weekend. She ignored invitations to join me in the water though. 😹😹

Gracie is getting braver and sometimes stays downstairs for a cuddle-sleep now. It’s funny to think they haven’t been with us 6 months yet. 

I’m not looking forward to Friday afternoon. I have to have an hour long MRI scan on my spine. I’ve had them before but never so long and it’s not going to be easy to lie still with the pain in my back. Beam positive vibes to me in Ashford, Kent, please! 

And finally….

Did you see Tesco’s cock up on the news?  Some poor employee mistook French saussison sec as secateurs, so suddenly you had to be over 18 to buy French sausage as it had been classed as a bladed weapon. They’ll never live it down. 🤣
