WOYWW 888 birthday and slowly growing owls

Hi all, Isn’t that a satisfying blog number, 888! I’m visiting our blog circle again care of Sarah’s Craftshed.
My second keepsake owl, based on a pattern from the Wishing Shed, is growing. I’m not happy with the waterlilies so I’m doing that again.
In this photo, you can see my stitch threader secured to the catch of my basket to stop it escaping into its black hole 😀 and the unsatisfactory water lilies.
Bella helped a lot with the earlier stages but she’s been doing a lot of gadding about her garden this week. Brian says she’s scaring off the effalumps. It must be working ‘cos I can’t see any 😹. She sends you all purrs.
It’s been a busy week. My birthday started last Wednesday as a hamper from Philps Pasties arrived from my friend Deb in Cornwall, with the tastiest Cornish pasties we’ve ever eaten and the lightest scones. I discovered that the Cornish put jam on first because the scones were eaten warm and the cream would have melted.
On Friday we went to Franc’s restaurant in Canterbury with friends. Although we were a disparate group everyone enjoyed themselves.
Some were neighbours, a couple from my art class, a beekeeper who I met at T’ai chi and my creative writing tutor.

We really enjoyed it.
On Sunday, we went to Amberlea, the Japanese tea house in the countryside near Sittingbourne. Once we got over being lost on single-track roads for half an hour, it was lovely.

I had some lovely presents, including some made by our LLJ, others bought by her from Jan the jeweller at the same fairs, which went superbly with my new dress, as do the turquoise earrings from my godson.
The Australian opals, a Georg Jensen dolphins brooch and the Syrian cookbook were from Brian. (Since he’s the chef in our kitchen, the present becomes meals made by him 😋. )
Jan’s cat design triplet and handmade books and cat card:
I also had what I believe is called a jester bag and tweed brooch made by my master quilter friend, Liz.  The tweed came from our local Romney Marsh sheep.

Even yesterday we received another afternoon tea and flowers from one of my goddaughters.

And finally..,

Happy WOYWW to you all. I’ve still some shortbread fingers, Victoria sponge and millionaire’s shortbread so put the kettle on and I’ll be round with them via the blog. 😹
Hugs

What a fab week you’ve had, I’m so pleased that you had such a lovely time celebrating your big birthday! You deserve to be spoilt rotten xx
I really love the water lilies! If you’re not happy though, they’ll never be right will they? Hope you find an alternative method/design.
The yarn emojis made me hoot, especially the Pinocchio nose lying one….that rang a bit too true lol!
Hugs LLJ 4 xx

Blimey! You were spoiled, weren't you? How lovely. And so are the water lilies - you are too critical. To me they look amazing.

Happy Birthday! Those owls you make are so pretty. Bella seems to have the best job in your studio. We only have indoor cats, but they do love birdwatching from our windows at the bird feeders outside. Happy WOYWW!

So sorry to miss your big 0 birthday, many happy returns Lynne, you are wonderful in every minute of those years! You’ve had some gorgeous presents I must say. And I’m looking forward to the revised water lilies because I think the existing ones are lovely!

Oh and that is a lovely picture of you and Brian, and tickle Bella for me, she’s very brave to hunt the effalumps.

What a lovely extended birthday you've had. The gifts you've received are all very lovely. I think your embroidery is beautiful, including the water lilies that you are so disappointed with. The position which Bella has taken up is also my Silver's favourite. It's not elegant but it's as close as she can get when my hands are busy. Enjoy the rest of your birthday goodies and I look forward to hearing what dishes your hubby makes from that cookbook. Have a great WOYWW, Elizabeth #12

Happy 888th blog anniversary, and a very happy belated birthday to you! Your celebration sounded absolutely magical—getting a pasty hamper from Cornwall is brilliant, and that bit of history about the jam going first to protect the warm cream is a great trivia nugget. It sounds like you had the most wonderfully eclectic dinner group at Franc's, too; a beekeeper and a writing tutor at the same table must have made for spectacular conversation. Your keepsake owl is coming along beautifully, and securing that stitch threader to the basket to avoid the inevitable black hole is pure genius. Give Bella an extra chin scratch for successfully keeping the garden entirely elephant-free, and save a piece of that millionaire's shortbread for me.
