WOYWW 728

Happy 14th anniversary to you all!
I’ve had some lovely ATCs already.
From Helen and LLJ below

From Wipso and Twiglet, above. The house is a keyring!
I’ve focussed on elephants as 14 is the ivory anniversary and, of course, only elephants need any. The photo on the right is from a new cafe on Folkestone harbour.

I tried using king Cole curiosity yarn for the chevron blanket but it hasn’t worked. As you see below, it lacks impact. I like the pattern but just need a yarn with the right number of colour changes.

So now I’m back on the Frida cardi and I’ve ordered another yarn to try. It’s all acrylic dk, Jan, so I’ll add it to the bag for you 😉.
Today I bought 2 ‘pieces of eight’ from a Spanish galleon in Ramsgate harbour. They’re Philip II (husband of Mary I, and lived till 1598 so was King during the Spanish Armada.) I’m not sure what to do with them - earrings? They’re a bit big mind!
We had a lovely visit to the galleon.

In the day there would have been about 150 crew - hard to see how they all fit in.

Lots of gruesome details about the food they ate and the state of it but all very interesting. It’s off to Weymouth next and is worth a visit.
The day was glorious and we came home sun-glazed 🌞 from our walk.

You saw Bella above helping with my crochet. Here’s Gracie, receiving due obeisance. They both send you purrs.
And finally…

I’m off to enjoy the anniversary blogs care of Julia at The Stamping Ground blog
Take care all, and happy WOYWW elephant’s anniversary!
Hugs

  2. From one fellow cat lover to another. That galleon sounds interesting and those coins were amazing. I know so little about European history, although I created a Kings and Queens of England altered book that began in 1066 and ended with Elizabeth II. I do remember researching Elizabeth 1 and the Spanish Armada.

Your funnies are great especially the last one. I believe I am your PIF. Happy Anniversary from # 3. I found your e-mail on your profile page, so I will contact you.

  6. Hi Lynne! Great idea to use the ivory/elephant theme. That visit to the Spanish galleon looks really interesting though I had a chuckle at the thought of that hammock - or any hammock really, I don't think I'm designed to use one!! It was probably a rough old life. Anyhow, have a lovely week. Happy WOYWW Anniversary, love n hugs Cindy #7 xx

  7. Happy 14th WOYWW!! I’m so pleased you joined in the desky madness, it’s a really supportive bunch of gals and good to be part of. I see what you mean about that yarn, the colours don’t change quickly enough, hope the new stuff works better - thanks for keeping the acrylic odds and sods for me, it all helps xx
Looks like you had a great day yesterday, the ship was impressive.

  8. Morning Lynne, I love the subtleties of the yarn and I would definitely wear those colours but if you're after impact then it doesn't deliver a punch does it. So your search continues - good luck and I hope the find the right yarn for the pattern soon. I love the coins you bought, they would look fabulous as earrings. Hope you have a great week and Happy Anniversary,
    Hugs, Diana xx #16

  9. Thank you Lyn, your gorgeous ATC is here, with your lovely words; what a brilliant theme, the actual anniversary itself part of it never occurred to me! Ivory..nice colour too! shame about the King Cole, but I see what you mean..although if you’re working in vertical strips like that, the impact may not appear till you join them together. I had a coatigan pattern in strips that I made my Ma in Law knot for me, it was shades of grey and looked nothing until it was completed. Not sure if I’ve still got it because it became too big..if it is still languishing in the wardrobe, I’ll photo it later. Love that you picked up some treasure on your day out..perhaps a bracelet or brooch? Saw one in half and have a pair of half earrings? Can you tell..I don’t know either?!!

  13. I nearly fell off my chair when I saw that Zebra rocking horse! Now if I had 45K, I might consider buying it. I would rather have the classic miniature at 1450 pounds, though. I don't have one of that design. Thanks for sharing that link, Lynne.

BTW, we have something in common. My undergrad degree is in Mechanical Engineering.

  18. Love your elephant ATC what a great idea to link to anniversary years. Super coins, I'd display them somewhere special. Oh and the MRI is no joke to me, I freaked out WITHOUT a spider in there and that was only for my hips! They had to pull me out early I totally froze when it moved me in further couldn't even press the help button, tears were streaming out of my eyes and they finally asked if I was OK and I managed to say NO. Oh and the music playing was Dido about not being able to breathe - total nightmare. Eeeeekkk Happy anniversary Hugs BJ#18

  20. Hi there. Super ATC's. I love history so would enjoy visiting that ship, I don't think it will be visiting anywhere close to me in the West Mid's. Maybe will catch it one day when visiting the coast.
