Here’s my desk first, at art class. I made a big mistake towards the end of last week’s class. I was painting dark inner shadows and our tutor said ‘Use a big brush’ so I did without thinking and made my main cast shadow far too dark.
I tried lifting it out with a damp brush but it wasn’t working.
At home, I got the idea of using my ‘magic sponge’
(There are many brands online, you can use them to clean all sorts of things)
This reduced my cast shadow to a more acceptable level. I tried to get the eggs closer to their colour but, having over-worked them, the graphite had mixed with the watercolour and made them muddy. A lesson learned for another time!
Another gadget arrived this week:
It’s a Yarn gator I bought it off a site on Facebook ages ago, but it’s taken so long to arrive I’d forgotten it. It’s handy to reduce yarn tangling - its advantage over ones I’ve seen before is that you can open the two sides. My waistcoat is growing under Bella’s supervision, and she sends you all purrs.

My most delicate work this week had me sticking an opal to my thumb. I bought this gold charm of the NASA Friendship 7 rocket (John Glenn’s earth orbit mission of 20.2.62) 25 years ago, when I passed my MSc, to remind myself it wasn’t rocket science. I told Brian I’d bought a NASA rocket off eBay and he was expecting it to come on an artic 😀. Anyway, when you open it, it has a little figure of John Glenn but the face plate is empty.
I always thought of adding a little opal and found a 1.2mm one recently. Of course, I first stuck it to my thumb but have sorted it out, and now I think it looks better.

And finally:
I think that one might be true!
No art class this week, so I’ll be round earlier. It’s my turn to bring biscuits, which are your favourite?
Happy WOYWW

I love your artwork…it’s all a learning game. I love your little rocket and the sentiment behind it.

Anything with chocolate.. i love the rocket too. Thanks for visiting already. Happy woyww Helen #1
Oh bring any biscuit Lynne, I am too greedy to have a preference! I wouldn’t have know about the cast shadow being too dark until I looked at the second photo, it’s amazing how I’m learning vicariously. Also of course ‘use a bigger brush’ would have been permission for me to wreck anything tbh. Love the story of the locket and the opal, it looks fab, what a great idea. Way back in my past blogging there’s an article about a big shiny gift that Bart brought me. I had visions of jewellery and it turned out to be a stainless steel chimney for the wood burner!!
Spike Milligan was a hoot! The yarn manager looks so useful - I wonder if I can rig up a DIY solution? I rarely use THAT many colours but one for just two or three could still be super helpful. The added opal is genius and so cute too! Also a Magic Eraser fan here. So helpful.... Happy pre-Skating Comp WOYWW!

Your little rocket is lovely and the addition of the opal is perfect. Things may not have gone quite to plan but your artwork looks great to me. Wishing you a very happy woyww, Angela x9x
Your watercolour is fab, I zoomed in for a closer look, you rescued the dark shadow so well! Love the story of your rocket locket and I’d have stuck the opal everywhere except where it was meant to go 😂😂 Your waistcoat is coming on very well indeed and I’ll have a chocolate hobnob please 😋
Hugs LLJ 2 xx
Your egg box work has taken lots of patience but well worth it. I'm amazed at all these fancy knitting gadgets. I might show you my "under the table" wool store next week.🤣 x x Jo 🌈
Shame about the mistake, but your magic sponge worked well. Did you know you can get a gesso for watercolour?
Great funnies. I wondered if you still took painkillers for you nerve pain? Mine shows no sign of improving 😟 hugs Angela #12
Oh the magic sponge sounds good. I never seem to be able to lift colour like I see presenters do on videos. Well done with what your sponge achieved. Love the new "yarn gator" oh yet another term for me - LOL. Love the charm and its story and yes the opal is perfect, how special. Love the jokes this week too. Hugs Bj#3
Love what you did with the opal - perfect!! Your watercolouring is gorgeous, you are doing so well! And mistakes are just another way of learning. Bella is going to miss her blanket when you are done! Have a wonderful week❤️Lindart #13
