WOYWW 605 Buttons and bees

Hi all, Happy new year to you all!

We’re back for our Wednesday blog hop, via The Stamping Ground  and back in lockdown. I know it’s hard for some but the way the covid rates were rising even in T4, it’s all we can do.
My desk this week reflects my current fad for making Dorset buttons and other embellishments.

I’ve used a mix of Embroidery and sashiko thread and am waiting for further supplies to complete buttons for my latest Ammonite gloves below. I’m also making a hat for a beekeeping friend so I’ve  made a bee for her hat. I do hope the bees don’t think it’s threatening!

Here’s B doing his excellent modelling again.

Last week I asked how old the little pot I got for Christmas might be. Well, it’s from the Hoi An hoard, on a boat which sank in the Dragon sea in about 1480, so it’s over 500 years old.
I just love thinking about everything that happened overhead while it lay in its ship on the sea bed. I wrote about it here: My Hoi An pot
Apart from the major pieces, which were kept by the Vietnam museums, they sold the smaller pieces to help finance the very difficult excavation. The Excavation story is here.

A turn up for the books tonight; Thea has sat on B’s knee for the first time since Dino died. Progress!

Otherwise, she is in full winter mode, sleeping either in her tepee or on my lap.
She sees lockdown as an advantage I guess!

And finally ....
This is me all over!
Stay safe and happy WOYWW

  1. Love those ammonites that I see popping up on FB now and then but now there is a bee to rival them and I think the bee is lovely - because I have a thing about bees.
Sorry must go - I want to read about that pot. Wosw, what a treasure to have in your hands.
Happy New Year to you both, stay safe and well,
    Hugs, Neet 17 xx

  2. We are WOYWW neighbours today! Love the ammonites and the bee (surely that’s a good title for a story?) and B’s modelling is second to none. The story of the little pot is amazing and how lovely that you own a piece! Well done Thea for settling in onB’s lap, I don’t blame her for wanting to keep warm and snug at all times, am feeling like hibernation too :-D
The And Finally made me hoot! Always another ball of yarn or craft to try......

  3. That pot and the story behind it is fascinating and was such an interesting read. It's also nice to see someone keeping the Dorset button tradition alive. I've never had a go at it but must give it a try some day (and there's the "And Finally" in action.... LOL)

    Happy WOYWW!

  5. Terrific funnies! your Hoi an Pot sounds intriguing ~ how it survived all this time is amazing to think about. My cats are in full winter mode too and move very infrequently from one couch to the next. ~ Enjoy your week! Love, Karen#32

  6. Love the cartoons. I should think that there are lots of pets that are enjoying the Lockdown. Loving your buttons and the gorgeous little pot too. I seem to remember something on TV at some time about some pottery that was taken from a sunken ship. Take care and have a happy woyww, Angela x19x

  9. Love the bee - I always love anything with a bee theme, and your Dorset button is great too. When I get time I'm definitely going to go down the ammonite route with my crochet - those hand warmers are so great! I did a double take when I saw a pic of your B modelling the hat - he looks soooo like my hubby, especially in that first photo!!! It's remarkable! Especially with a beanie on lol! So nice that Thea has decided to sit on him. The little china box and the story behind it is amazing. I love it when you share your lovely unusual artefacts with us - they are so fascinating and unique. Goodness, I really identify with your final funny! I think that's why I win the Most UFOs award hands-down...

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  11. Hi Lynne, thanks for your visit. I think perhaps you must have missed my slippers when I was making them - it was a while back. It was a really fun project, but not easy to do the embroidery which all had to be done from the top surface using a curved needle. You will be glad to hear that my eyes are now back to their normal colour again lol lol!!! My green juice recipe is about half-and-half fruit and veg, and contains a lot of water too. It lasts about 3 days so you've not going to get too much of a sugar hit from it. It does at least contain all the fibre, even if it is partially pre-digested! It's better really to eat the whole fruit and veg but nice for a treat. Smoothies are worse because they are so concentrated, and people drink them down much too fast. Someone said it was best to chew your smoothies - I know it sounds weird but the action stimulates the secretion of the right hormones to aid in the digestive process. I'll have to do a piece on it, I think... I don't really like the gloopy texture of smoothies so I don't make them.

The cat jigsaw was certainly difficult, but so much fun! Lily and Ruby and I send Thea a big hug.

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  12. Sorry I’m so late! The pot tale and history is just do fascinating isn’t it, and it’s finish is remarkable, wha t a story. jan and I were chatting about the shape of babies and bobbles and then she showed me one you’d made for her with a better top than just reducing to a point, it makes a lot of sense to shape it to the head! your ‘and finally’ makes me smile....you aren’t alone with this I must say! Your rendering of a bee is just lovely. Hope you enjoy your embellishment period!
