WOYWW 608 Spirals and cats

Hi all, back for another Wednesday peek at what we’re all up to, courtesy of Julia at  The Stamping Ground
My nostepinne has had a lot of use this week as I’m starting a cat stitch pocket shawl.

When I put the yarns together I was a bit worried they didn’t provide enough contrast for the pattern but I’m enjoying it.

I’ve also finally succeeded with spiral Dorset buttons. I’m pleased with these. The Suffragette yarn from Beaker Buttons helps!

When Thea comes for a cuddle she wraps herself round my neck. This week it almost felt like she was pushing my head out of the way! She’s being a bit more independent now and has a current love affair going on with the middle room radiator.

Thanks for all your good wishes last week; the new Zolmig nasal spray seems to work well.

LLJ has been having a sort out of old photos this week. I’ve really enjoyed seeing photos of us back in the 1980s. I can’t believe how big my glasses were!

And finally....

Stay safe all, and happy WOYWW!
Hugs
Lynne

  1. I really love the colours you’re suing in that shawl, a gorgeous mix! The spiral Dorset buttons are very clever, I’m glad you were able to work it out - I still think its funny that I remember the shop vividly, I used to go there with Julia for a browse. I’m glad you like the photos, we’ve had lots of fun reminiscing here too!!
    Hugs LLJ 4 xx

  4. How lovely to see a different interpretation of cat stitch, Lynne! I love that stitch - it's so much fun to do and really does look like kitties! I love the yarn you have chosen - beautiful subtle colours. Your spiral Dorset buttons are brilliant, too! I've never heard of a nostapinne and had to look it up. I watched a video on how to use one, and it certainly looks a lot easier, and with a neater result, than my usual hand-wound balls. I am using my little mini-cone winder these days which is double quick as you turn the handle, and you can pull the plastic cone out afterwards so that you can pull the yarn from the centre, but the hole in the centre is rather big. I love how we learn about new stuff on WOYWW! Thanks for sharing this.

Great funnies, especially the first one which made me laugh out loud! Must show my hubby. We used to have a kitty who loved draping herself round my hubby's shoulders while he worked at his desk. She would stay there for hours. Our two don't ever do it! They all have their funny little ways, don't they. I'm so glad Thea is settling down so well after losing Dino. I'm sure she enjoys all the extra attention.

Thank you for your visit, and for your good wishes for the progress of my hospital stuff. I live in hope! No, I haven't tried pear in my green smoothies - I've only just started making them and haven't any pears in the house. I gave up buying them years ago because like the peaches from the supermarket, they would always arrive rock hard and take weeks to be ready to eat - and then immediately turn mouldy! I do love pears, though. In a smoothie it wouldn't matter if they were hard because the Vitamix would deal with that, no problem.

Glad you enjoyed seeing our little sun worshippers this week, and also the embroidered kitties! The cat throw is proving to be great fun to make but I'm in a quandary about whether to join up all the squares first and then add embellishments, or the other way round, and how on earth, at that stage, am I going to keep it hidden from my hubby!!

Happy WOYWW, and I really enjoyed your post, as always!

  5. Happy WOYWW. Lovely colours of yarn. I remember watching the button making lady on craft tv and being tempted to try it, but never did. I don’t do any knitting any more, so no use for buttons. Ali x. #26

  7. Oh wow, those buttons are really cracking! I had to zoom in to see that they were made of wool! Knitting is a dark art to me but I admire it so much. I love all the texture in your top piece too. Stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane #10

  9. Love the yarn colours in that shawl, they really speak to me. I think if I looked I would find photos with glasses as big as that!! (Deirdre Barlow had a lot to answer for!) Happy WOYWW, stay well, stay safe, Cindy xx #8

  10. Lynne, I think what you are doing with those yummy yarns is lovely! Those colors all work so well together and the finished product will be GORGEOUS! I love that your baby comes to cuddle with you. I miss my kitties and their cuddly ways, but they didn't cuddle around my neck, that is just too stinking cute to me! I love that Jan has drug up old photos. Good memories for you both I am sure!! And EVERYTHING was big back in the 80's, LOL...hair, glasses, earrings, you name it! I don't have fond memories of the 80's and was glad to see the 90's!!! LOL Take care and stay safe! Blessings, Felicia #28

  13. Thank you for your return visit, Lynne, and for your advice about the blanket. Yes, joining the squares in strips would be good, once I've done a major layout on the floor, which I could probably do if my hubby goes out (not so frequently at the moment given the current situation) or after he goes to bed - I'm such a late bird that I have the place to myself for hours each day! I think I'll probably make the strips and then apply the embellishments. Decisions, decisions! My hubby is incredibly unobservant about everything, so much that I despair of him sometimes! Regarding weaving in the ends, I do weave in as I go sometimes, but I also don't mind weaving them in after I've finished each square. This way the weaving in can be more secure and also doesn't show so much. I always weave in as I go with knitting, though.

    Have a good week.
