WOYWW 614 Nostepinne and shopping 🛒

Hi all, back again for our weekly blog hop courtesy of Julia at The Stamping Ground
The weeks seem to go faster and faster. It must be my age!

For International Women’s day.
1 this is a great video.
2. I love this photo

Mask adapters
I was just set up to do a nice new round of mask adapters when I heard out vaccination centre is temporarily closed. Computer update? Supply problems? Who knows.

Nostepinne and shawl

Anyway, my new nostepinne has arrived, handmade by Les Smith. Now we’ll have no rude comments from the back there. It fits beautifully in my hand. (I said, NO SNIGGERING, LLJ!). Very good quality, very reasonably priced.
I also received a very nice cat shawl pin

I’m still crocheting my cat stitch shawl. It’s growing!

Going out / Shopping
The big event for me this week is that I have been INTO A SHOP! This might not seem remarkable, but I’m still shielding.
I had to go for a hospital appointment at our big, scary hospital on Thursday. Even though they double spaced the chairs, the waiting room at the eye clinic looked rammed to me. The nurse must have seen I was panicking. So, with extreme kindness, they let me sit in an unused side room while I waited.
Anyway, on Sunday, B said he was going to check out a new food shop in Folkestone and when we got there it looked quite empty compared with that hospital waiting room so I went in!! It was lovely just to browse shelves and wander around. It must be a year since I last went into a shop. Shopping on the internet is just not the same. I can’t say I’m ready to go into a supermarket, but it’s progress.

Thea
Thea had taken to tail chasing at eye watering speed around the bed when we’re trying to sleep. Last night I had a brainwave and put an old fleece sweater at the foot of the bed. She couldn’t resist it and is still sleeping happily on it.
Now I intended to put a cartoon in here but I forgot to save it. (And of course Facebook loses such things immediately).
Just imagine a cat at the psychiatrist’s lying on a couch complaining:
“Every time I get a nice place to snooze, some human comes up and takes a photo. It’s such a breach of my privacy.”......

And finally....

I’m still having problems commenting on blogger sometimes, despite Jan’s fix (in last week’s comments) but I will try to comment on your lovely blogs.

Take care, keep crafting and have a lovely week
Hugs

  1. I am glad you received such helpful treatment at the hospital. It just goes to show how we take things like shopping for granted, glad you managed the trip to the shop too! Our supermarket is ok mostly though you'd find it very busy! Have a good week. Helen #3

  2. Well, I am still holding out shielding and will probably still do it until after I have had the second jab. I think it will be a strange experience and from what people say about the behaviour in supermarkets I think I will find it alarming, Maybe I should wear a crinoline to keep folks away?
What a kind and considerate nurse. I have found that in our hospital they do not have many in a clinic at any one time. In fact both Pacemaker checks I have been the only one, once and one of two the other.
I do hope Thea slows down a bit and adopts the old fleece sweater permanently , especially at night time.
    Hugs, Neet 4 xx

    Stay safe and keep well.
    Happy WOYWW!

  4. LOL! That lady in the "and finally" is so right!! I'm glad they looked after you at the hospital - it certainly feels very odd going anywhere with lots of people doesn't it? Can't wait to see the finished blanket. As always, stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane #8

  5. Argh, the hospital waiting room shouldn’t look like that...I had to go to the dentist and it was reassuringly deserted....couldn’t hear a thing mind you, the dentist was wearing a proper P95 mask under a fabric mask under a face shield! Good for you in the shop, taking your time and having a good browse must have felt quite cathartic! An antidote to computer screen shopping. The nostepinne is such a clever tool, how nice if your friend to make one to size. I didn’t so much as flinch till you mentioned LLJ!!!

  6. Ooooo-err missus, that’s a big one!! *snigger* and even a *titter* lol! The girth is very satisfactory too, perfect for chunky yarns etc. There, now I’ve lowered the tone satisfactorily :-D. The pic of Thea is lovely, so snuggly and the feline And Finally is so true. Mind you the other two are as well though I’m determined not to buy any more clothes, gotta shift the flab!
Lovely to have a catch up yesterday, isn’t it amazing how the time flies?!
    Hugs LLJ 9 xxx

  7. No i'm not tittering about the nostepinne one bit hee hee!! Your cat blanket looks so cosy Lynne.
Really nice to read you had extra support on your visit some staff really go out of their way to put people at ease, it will be so hard for many to adjust when life gets back to how we once remembered, take little steps it's a good way to move forward and there is really no rush.. just stay safe Happy WoywW Tracey #15 x

  8. Well done braving your fears and going out. I have to say I'm not a bit scared. The last time I went shopping was horrible, not because of fear, but because the place was like a ghost town and everybody seemed to be scuttling about and the whole scene was really dystopian. I love the new nostepinne and laughed out loud at your remark directed towards Jan!!! Lol! There's always one... The cat pin is absolutely gorgeous, and is just right for your cat stitch shawl, which is looking totally awesome. I just love that beautiful yarn... On my To Do list is to make a new cardigan to replace my beloved ancient M&S (charity shop) charcoal grey one which really isn't smart enough these days. I am thinking of crocheting one in cat stitch, using black and charcoal, to make it more interesting than just one colour. I didn't think I could face knitting it because it would take too long! Anyway, that's a good while down the list.

So glad you like the crochet joining method. When I eventually do my Persian Tiles throw, I am thinking of using it for that, if I can work out how to turn the corners on an octagon. I think working out the "map" would be hard and it might not work. I shall probably leave out the border of double crochets around each tile, though. Still thinking about it. I like the idea of crocheting squares together because you can do it in one colour that unifies the design nicely.

Tesco and Sainsbury both do unsweetened almond milk - you should be able to get it. I can't stand the sweetened stuff, and that yoghurt my hubby bought me a few weeks ago was quite revolting! I did redeem it by blitzing it with fruit and making desserts out of it so it narrowly escaped ending up in the bin. I won't buy anything with added sugar. Yuck. I love my home made almond milk but my hubby prefers the shop one because it doesn't have much taste. I made more chia oat pudding last night for breakfast today, with my almond milk, and it was great.

You may be surprised how well Thea could settle down with a new little playmate. It took our old Beatrice a year to accept Chloe and Phoebe after her sister Bella got killed, but eventually she and Phoebe got on pretty well. (Chloe also got killed - awful road outside our old house.) When Phoebe died, Beatrice broke her heart and only lasted another 3 weeks. She was very old and poorly by that time but she really grieved. Our two, of course, being sisters, have always been together, even in their mother's womb, and they are like two halves of a single unit! They do so much mutual washing and cuddling up that they probably smell identical to each other. They really do love each other which is very sweet.

    Happy WOYWW,

  9. Great solution to getting Thea to stay put Lynne. What a pity the vaccination centre has closed just as your new supplies are at hand. Well done for making it to a shop. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #4

  11. I laughed out loud a few times reading your post. I hope the vaccination center opens up again soon and you get yours. I had my first shot on Monday and looking forward to the second one. It's a sense of relief. Have a wonderful week. Dorlene #34

  12. Lynne, that shaw pin is absolutely gorgeous!! So beautifully crafted!! It will look so beautiful with yours when you get finished!! It's so funny to hear that it's been a year since you have been in a store. We had lock down last year for a minute, but basically stores opened back up towards the end of the year as long as you had your mask on. Some monitor how many are in at a time, but mostly back up to par. Restaurants seem to be a different story however. Most you can only order and pick up or go through the drive thru. I'm ready for the light at the end of the tunnel! LOL Kitties have a way of entertaining themselves and luckily, us too! They are so cute!!! Blessings for the rest of your week! Felicia, #31

  13. Hi Lynne, my daughter in law tells me that Primark may be open on Monday! She seems quite excited, but I have no inclination to shop (although I could manage a trip to the Range :). Happy WOYWW Angela #21

  14. Hi , I'm late this week as I had to sort some stuff out yesterday ready for my mum coming home. Nice to hear they were understanding in the hospital. We do go to the Supermarket but you need to go either very early or very late but it looks as though there are a lot more people buying on line and having their food delivered so it's never quite so busy as it used to be thank goodness as it's the only place we go apart from walking the dogs. I am so loving the cat shawl it gets more beautiful every week. Happy creative, belated WOYWW, Angela x19x

  15. Well, I learned a new word today! I had to look up what a nostepinne was! I know exactly how you feel about going into shops, although I do go out once in awhile, it's usually to the same shops (pharmacy, wine store!). I also do a lot of online shopping, groceries is my favourite one! I'm not looking forward to grocery shopping again. The cat shawl is looking gorgeous! Thanks for your visit, have a great week, Lindart #35
